As a Senior Platform Engineer at Old Mutual, you will play a crucial role in building and maintaining high-performing, scalable enterprise-grade platforms that foster business agility and rapid deployment. Embrace system and design thinking to implement platforms, leveraging software automation principles and data-driven insights. This position is based in Cape Town or Durban.

Duties and Responsibilities

-Build high-performing, scalable enterprise-grade platforms to facilitate business agility and rapid deployment in a dynamic business environment.
-Identify and apply technologies and patterns for version control to development teams, ensuring adherence to the Old Mutual Cloud Security Controls Standard.
-Collaborate with the Platform Engineering Product Owner to refine the product backlog and define quarterly objectives based on the development teams' demand.
-Own the design of the platform deployment system, including tools, processes, role assignments, dependencies, and documentation.
-Ensure that software configuration management tooling aligns with the Old Mutual Cloud Security Controls Standard.
-Conduct cadence calls with development teams to understand software configuration management and deployment demands, maintaining the Platform Engineering product backlog.
-Execute/implement multiple Platform Engineering objectives per quarter.
-Develop infrastructure-as-code to provision build and deployment environments for software teams.
-Craft and maintain documentation, templates, and style guides for Platform Engineering, assisting software development teams in adopting standards.
-Review technical artifacts generated by Associate Platform Engineers, Platform Engineers, and software development teams.
-Respond (2nd line) to and resolve support tickets in the Platform Engineering support queue.
-Facilitate AWS technical enablement workshops for software development and architecture teams.
-Create public-facing artifacts such as blog posts, whitepapers, or open-source projects for the broader engineering community.
-Represent Old Mutual at industry events as a speaker or panelist.

Qualifications and Experience

-Programming diploma/on-the-job training with 5+ years of programming experience.
-Experience in information architecture and design interfaces.
-Knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle; DevOps knowledge is advantageous.
-Familiarity with architecture styles, Microservice, and Serverless architectures.
-Knowledge of at least one high-level programming language: Java, C#, C++.
-Ability to produce technical documentation.

Technical Skills Required:
-Monitoring solutions at scale (Elasticsearch, New Relic, AWS X-Ray, Amazon CloudWatch).
-Knowledge of LAN and WAN networking concepts (routing and switching); TCP/IP knowledge is advantageous.
-Strong knowledge and practical implementation of AWS Services (Lambda, CodeBuild, CodePipeline, CodeCommit, CloudFormation), Kubernetes, Terraform, Jenkins, Prometheus, Grafana.
Shell scripts (e.g., Bash) are advantageous.
-Experience maintaining any *nix-based platform (Linux, FreeBSD, etc.).
-AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator Associate, AWS Certified Developer Associate, AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional.

Additional Qualifications (Preferred):
-AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional, AWS Certified Security Specialty, Cisco Certified Networking Associate.
