BACKGROUND
On 1st November 2019, African Parks signed an agreement with the Zimbabwean government and registered Matusadona Conservation Trust (MCT) for the management mandate of Matusadona National Park. Matusadona Conservation Trust is therefore looking for a suitable individual to fill up the position of Junior Community Development officer. The successful candidates will be required to live in and around Matusadona National Park.
JOB PURPOSE:
The Community Development officers will be reporting to the Community Development Supervisor (CDS). They are responsible in assisting the CDS in rolling out community/stakeholder engagement and business plan. They will also be responsible for organizing and presenting conservation education programs in schools and communities, planning for workshops including scheduling and arranging educational tours for community and school children, plan and arrange for community field days, community displays and Participate in local exhibitions in Kariba.
•Design and deliver a range of innovative community outreach and engagement activities around communities surrounding Matusadona National Park;
•Developing and sustaining positive relationships with a range of stakeholders, including community leaders, local groups Organizations, and local authorities;
•Work with government counterparts and NGOs in planning, and implementing the outreach and conservation awareness programs and monitor their implementation;
•Assist in organizing and coordinating outreach activities, events, workshops, and other field trips; including live broadcasting on local radio
•Assist in designing and creating communication materials such as brochures, signage, and exhibits;
•Give talks in schools and to community groups on environmental issues, Problem Animal Management etc.
•Teach groups and interpret the conservation issues on-site by leading guided walks in the Park and answering questions.
•Liaise with local community and stakeholders on all matters affecting wildlife management in and outside the PA.
•Undertake, facilitate and coordinate environmental education and projects in schools and the local communities.
•Oversee and monitor MCT sponsored projects within the communities and schools. • Facilitate the formation of wildlife clubs, roll out junior ranger programs in schools.
•Receive Human Wildlife Conflict reports and ensure there is swift response.
Ad
1.Diploma in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Education or related field and/or equivalent combination of training and experience.
2.Thorough knowledge of natural resources, sustainable livelihoods, and the ability to apply such knowledge to various projects and programs.
3.Must possess excellent inter-personal, written, oral communication and public speaking skills
4.Ability to properly operate a variety of standard office equipment including computers and audio-visual equipment.
5.Ability to speak comfortably in front of groups both small and large on topics of conservation.
6.Proficient in English and ability to prepare written reports.
7.Strong skills in full suite of Microsoft Office products– Power Point, Excel, Word and Outlook.
8.Ability to work in a standard office environment and in an outdoor field environment
9.Possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
