Job Description

The UN Health Care Center in Ethiopia serves UN staff and eligible dependents, offering core and non-core health services. This includes disaster response, pandemic support, and medical evacuation processing, among other health and wellness responsibilities.

This position focuses on delivering emergency nursing services to ensure client safety, satisfaction, and adherence to organizational health standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

As an Emergency Nurse, your primary tasks will include:
Emergency Response:
-Respond to emergency calls, provide first aid, and assist medical officers.
-Document patient care and maintain communication with relevant parties.
-Perform emergency procedures like CPR and advanced airway management.

Medical Support:
-Maintain accurate inventories of medical supplies and equipment.
-Administer first aid, routine care, and vaccinations while adhering to proper cold chain protocols.
-Conduct tests as directed by a medical officer and assist with medical evacuations.

Patient Care:
-Transfer patients to emergency rooms and provide care until a treating physician is present.
-Record patients’ medical history, vital signs, and laboratory results.
-Perform physical examinations and assist in diagnosing health conditions.

Health Education and Administration:
-Provide health education and participate in wellness programs.
-Ensure the readiness of traveling staff, including administering vaccines and travel-related health briefings.
-Dispense medications, maintain stock records, and ensure equipment maintenance.

Operational Support:
-Accompany patients on medical evacuations as needed.
-Participate in remote medical assistance during meetings and field missions.
-Adhere to strict confidentiality and master online documentation systems (EarthMed).

Qualifications and Experience

Education:
-Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing plus a Master’s in Emergency and Critical Care Nursing.
-Alternatively, a B.Sc. in Emergency Medicine or Anesthesia and Critical Care Nursing.
-National registration and licensure are mandatory.
-Additional certifications in BLS, ACLS/ALS, ATLS, and PALS are advantageous.

Experience:
-Master’s Degree holders: No prior experience required.
-Bachelor’s Degree holders: Minimum of two years in Emergency Nursing or Anesthesia.
-Experience in an international organization is a plus.

Language Proficiency:
-Fluency in oral and written English is required.
-Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
