Background:
The Harare Institute of Public Health (HIPH) is committed to advancing research and innovation to address critical health challenges within Zimbabwe and beyond. The HIPH Research and Innovation Unit aims to enhance the institute's research capacity by supporting high-impact projects, fostering collaboration, and ensuring effective management of research initiatives. To achieve these objectives, HIPH seeks an experienced, dynamic, and motivated Assistant Registrar - Research and Innovation who will play a critical role in driving research output, securing funding opportunities, and ensuring compliance with research standards.
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee the coordination of research projects, ensuring timely execution, adherence to work plans, and alignment with HIPH's research priorities.
• Collaborate with researchers to develop project milestones, ensure adherence to project timelines, and monitor progress against objectives.
• Lead the development of grant proposals, tenders, and funding applications for national and international funding opportunities.
• Identify, evaluate, and pursue relevant funding opportunities, ensuring that proposals align with HIPH's strategic research goals.
• Coordinate the submission of Expressions of Interest (EOls) and application documents in response to Requests for Applications (RFAs) and calls for EOls.
• Manage the ethical review and approval process for all research activities, ensuring compliance with institutional and national ethical standards.
• Prepare, review, and submit tender bidding documents for research-related and consultancy opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with procurement policies and manage contractual obligations related to research activities.
• Lead efforts to increase and standardize research output, ensuring high-quality publications and academic contributions.
• Work with other departments to develop innovative concepts, draft proposals, and conceptualize research and innovation initiatives.
• Draft, standardize, and manage research-related documents, including progress reports, technical reports, and publications.
• Maintain organized records and ensure proper documentation of all research-related activities.
• Develop project budgets and ensure their accurate tracking and implementation.
• Design and implement comprehensive workplans for research projects to ensure smooth operations and resource allocation.
• Coordinate research activities across teams, ensuring effective collaboration and resource utilization.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
• A Master's degree in a social science or related field is essential. A PhD in a relevant discipline will be an added advantage.
• At least 2 years of professional experience in research administration, project management, or grant writing, preferably within a research or academic institution.
• Proven track record of contributing to or managing mixed-methods research studies, with experience in coordinating large-scale research projects.
• Strong knowledge of ethical guidelines, research compliance standards, and institutional review board (IRB)
• Demonstrated experience in developing grant proposals, tenders, and managing funding applications for national and international funding opportunities.
• High level of proficiency in using digital tools, project management software, and data management
• Excellent organizational and documentation skills, with the ability to manage and maintain detailed research records and reports.

• Strong understanding of research methodologies, both qualitative and quantitative, and the ability to apply these methods effectively in research settings.
• Proven ability to develop and manage project budgets, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and funding guidelines.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills to address complex research challenges and ensure research objectives are achieved.
• Capacity to engage effectively with multidisciplinary teams, researchers, funding bodies, and stakeholders to foster collaboration and effective communication.
• Proficiency in drafting high-quality technical reports, policy briefs, and research publications
• Strong ability to coordinate and manage research activities, workplans, and timelines to ensure project success.
• A commitment to maintaining the highest standards of ethical research practice and data integrity.
