The British Embassy in Harare seeks a dynamic and capable adviser to spearhead efforts in promoting trade and investment between the UK and Zimbabwe. As a member of the Green Growth Team, the adviser will play a pivotal role in interfacing with British businesses and investors seeking entry or expansion into Zimbabwe. The Green Growth Team leads the UK's initiatives for a cleaner, greener planet and endeavors to strengthen economic ties, fostering sustainable growth and increasing UK trade and investment in Zimbabwe. The adviser will collaborate closely with team members specializing in economics, private sector development, and climate, and engage with the UK Department for Business and Trade's regional network of specialists.
This exciting role contributes to achieving the UK's trade and prosperity objectives in Zimbabwe, supporting the nation's economic development ambitions. The position involves regular engagement with businesses and government partners in Zimbabwe to understand the opportunities and challenges in conducting business, with a focus on increasing UK trade and investment.
Specifically, the overall purpose is to:
-Increase the value of trade between Zimbabwe and the UK by addressing barriers faced by businesses accessing the Zimbabwean market or looking to export to the UK.
-Drive British investment into Zimbabwe to support its economic growth agenda and achieve mutual prosperity.
The adviser will be actively involved in:
-Developing and maintaining a network of high-value trade and investment relationships in Zimbabwe, collaborating with government and the local British and Zimbabwean business community to unlock investment and facilitate trade.
-Engaging with partners to understand challenges facing businesses and international investors in Zimbabwe, collaborating with key institutions such as ZIDA, ZimTrade, business associations, and key sector ministries to address strategic policy issues.
-Representing the UK at events to promote Zimbabwe to new investors and showcasing the UK offer to key counterparts. This includes managing an events schedule in line with the embassy's country business plan and leveraging the Ambassador and colleagues for maximum visibility impact.
-Leading the organization of inward and outward trade missions, official visits, and business events such as the Embassy's participation in the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF).
-Providing data and analysis of UK-Zimbabwe trade and investment flows, along with sectoral opportunities, and offering advice on trade and investment issues to ensure alignment with the UK's diplomatic and development work.
-Collaborating with regional UK Department for Business and Trade colleagues to enhance the uptake of their products and expertise in Zimbabwe. This involves presenting the UK trade and investment offer to external partners and representing the UK in senior meetings with government officials or businesses.
-Staying informed about cross-UK government developments and opportunities to harness the UK's global network and expertise for delivery in Zimbabwe. Priority sectors include agriculture (horticulture, beef, dairy), renewable energy (solar, wind, hydro, e-mobility), and financial and professional services, with growing interest in mining and critical minerals like lithium.
Specialist knowledge or experience in key sectors such as renewable energy, commercial agriculture (including horticulture), mining, financial services, infrastructure, or digital/technology.
