Wars and armed conflicts come to an end; however, the remnants of war continue to impact millions of people for decades to follow. Mine Action and Disarmament's vision is a world where people and communities are safe, resilient and protected before, during and after armed conflict. Together with national authorities and other stakeholders, we are working to resolve problems faced by local communities caused by Explosive Ordnance (EO). Currently, NPA has more than 20 Mine Action Programmes ongoing in Africa, Asia, Latin America, South East Europe and the Middle East.

Location: Mutare, Zimbabwe with extensive travels to Harare, Chipinge and Nyamapanda
-Coordinate and maintain a strategy for the MDD component.
-Establish, maintain and revise the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the MDDs and beyond.
-Ensure that these SOPs are followed during operations.
-Implement and manage routines for asset and stock control on all levels within the MDD component based on inputs/regulations provided by the Logistic Department.
-Organise and coordinate transfer of dogs into the country.
-Ensure that the dogs are given the required vaccinations and medical support/treatment. When needed, request medicines and medical equipment through the Logistic Department. Ensure that there is a medical log on each dog and that it is used.
-All MDD implementation and operations to be coordinated with the Operations Manager.
-Maintain cooperation and communication with NPA GTC on dog technical issues and problems that may arise.
-Be updated on other global dog demining programmes carried out by NPA and other NGOs/companies (experiences, achievements, test results, resource people, SOPs etc).
-Initiate improvement and work on development of the training methods and operating procedures in country context based on the needs, gained experiences, and situation specifics.

-Relevant higher education.
-At least 3 years of operational leadership experience in mine action NGO or commercial sector, including the Mine Detection Dogs. T
-Completed Mine Detection Dog (MDD) Trainer's Course or course with comparable curriculum held by NPA or recognized/ approved organization.
-Meets the requirements of ADS 5: ADS instructor (MDD Instructor) as per Test and Evaluation Protocol 07.31/02/2022 Competencies required for animal detection systems (ADS) handlers, team leaders and instructors.
-Certified MDD dog handler and trainer, and a minimum 5 years of operational experience.
-Excellent understanding of NPA SOPs and NPA training procedures.
-Excellent understanding of and experience in Land Release methodology.
-Proven experience and knowledge in the day-to-day implementation of all dogs' technical aspects such as training methodology, health, testing and philosophy.
-Basic knowledge and experience of finance and budget control.
-Proven experience in report writing and the production of project proposals inputs.
-Ability to identify and communicate challenges, bottlenecks and deficiencies within the operations to OM, etc.
-Ability to participate in NPA DMAD Zimbabwe Senior Management Team and, if necessary, act as Operations Manager (OM) in OM's absence, and represent NPA externally.
-Previous experience from Zimbabwe is an advantage.
-As a person, you have good coordination skills and cooperating ability, both with national and international personnel, excellent training and communication skills and a profound understanding of the intercultural challenges in the working environment in foreign countries. Also, you are willing and able to live and work in field camp conditions.
