POSITION DESCRIPTION

Therefore, this position description is designed to outline primary duties, qualifications, and job scope but does not limit the employee or the organisation to just the work identified. We expect each employee to offer his or her services wherever and whenever necessary to ensure the success of the services we provide to our internal and external stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

Operating Systems: Hands-on experience installing, configuring, and maintaining various operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS) in different environments (servers, desktops, virtual machines).
Networking: Practical experience with network protocols, hardware (routers, switches, firewalls), network security, and troubleshooting network issues.
Hardware: Experience working with server hardware, storage devices, and other infrastructure components, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Software: Installing, configuring, and troubleshooting various software applications, including server software, productivity suites, and specialized industry software.
Scripting and Automation: Developing and using scripts (Python, Bash, PowerShell) to automate tasks, improve efficiency, and manage systems at scale.
Cloud Computing: Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), including deploying and managing cloud-based infrastructure and services.
Cybersecurity: Implementing security measures, monitoring systems for threats, responding to security incidents, and staying up-to-date on security best practices.
Virtualization: Working with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) to create and manage virtual machines and infrastructure.
Databases: Basic knowledge of database administration, including installation, maintenance, and backup/restore operations.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field is often the minimum requirement.

• Ability to assimilate and analyse information quickly and accurately, think strategically, and ensure that all university ICT resources are managed efficiently to support the institution’s operations.
