POST D: SPORTS OFFICER – GWERU
JOB SUMMARY
The Sports Officer is responsible for the campus administration of sporting activities. The Sports Officer reports to the Sports and Recreation Coordinator, and plays an integral role in the student and staff experience with regards to sport and recreation. The Sports Officer assists in maintaining liaison relationships with both internal and external stakeholders in ensuring the environment and administrative implementation of sports calendars, student recruitment and coach effectiveness.

Duties and Responsibilities

-Reports to the Sports and Recreation Coordinator
-Assists the Sports and Recreation Coordinator to implement the departmental plan at the respective campuses.
-Is responsible for the administration and implementation of respective activities and coaches in accordance to the vision of the department.
-Organizes and promotes a variety of sports activities and events for students and staff.
-Duties include the administration of student sport recruitment, training schedules, and performance assessments for students and staff.
-Works with student organizations, external partners to enhance sports initiatives and resources.
-Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations during sports activities and events.
-Monitor participation rates and gather feedback to assess program effectiveness and make improvements.
-Utilize social media, newsletters, and events to promote sports programs and encourage student involvement.
-Identify and recruit talented athletes
-Develop and implement sports programs for various age groups and skill levels

Qualifications and Experience

-A first Degree preferably in Sports Management/ Business Sciences or related area.
-At least 1 (one) year of experience in a sport-related environment in a University or a tertiary institution.
-A sports coaching qualification is an added advantage.
-Strong organizational and leadership skills.
-Passion for promoting physical activity and student engagement in a university or higher and tertiary institution.
