Functional Responsibilities:
The incumbent will perform the following duties:
Advise the SE on political strategy on the peace process including its mediation efforts;
Provide recommendations on SE’s engagement with Yemeni and regional political actors;
Provide substantive input and assist in editing UN Security Council briefings and talking points for the SE as needed;
Maintain contact with Yemeni political actors in support of OSESGY efforts and identify pressure points that can be used during the negotiations with the different Yemeni political actors;
Maintain contact with key Member States and identify the main entry points for the SE’s engagement.
Conduct specific assignments to support the SE’s mission including in-depth research projects and the development of strategy papers as required.
Education:
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in political
science, international relations, international law, history, public administration, or related
fields.
Work Experience:
A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, development management, conflict resolution or related area is required.
Experience working in the Middle East is requried
Experience in drafting and editing analytical notes and reports is required.
Extensive political contacts in Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Oman and the UAE required.
Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat.
