Duties and Responsibilities

Job Summary

As SHEQ Manager, you will be responsible for Leading and Coordinating all SHEQ activities within the assigned territories. The incumbent will also be responsible for promoting continuous improvement in SHEQ performance and ensure alignment and implementation of global, sales area EHS objectives and plans in the territories.

In this position you will report to the SHEQ Manager (Southern Africa) & Territory Manager & MD and the position is based in Harare, Zimbabwe with an oversight of Namibia & Botswana territories and also frequent travel to various customer sites dotted across the country.

Main Responsibilities:

Ensuring implementation and adherence to all policies & procedures especially the SHEQ policies.
Provides leadership and manages the SHEQ function within the territory and sets organizational priorities.
Responsible for the SHEQ management system within the assigned territories.
Break-down BA / SA SHEQ strategy into territory strategy (where applicable) and formulate relevant programs & activities and targets for the area.
Monitor and report SHEQ performance and propose corrective actions.
Responsible for identifying areas of improvement and creating synergies.
Responsible for sharing and implementing SHEQ best practices.
Responsible for ensuring all territories meet local EHS legislation and statutory requirements.
Ensure implementation of The Sandvik Way within area of responsibility.

Qualifications and Experience

Your Character

We are looking for someone with a tertiary level qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environment Management Systems coupled with a professional qualification such as SHATCO / OSHEMAC or any relevant program from a recognised certified institution and a minimum of 8 years working experience, 5 being at managerial level.

The incumbent must have high level of proficiency in SHEQ systems and be able to implement systems and processes that will enable safe production thus being proactive in preventing or eliminating incidents or injuries which have the potential to cause business interruptions, production loss, damage to property, people & the environment, which ultimately affects bottom-line.

Our way of working compels that we execute our duties in a high standard of professionalism, quality, and exceeding customer expectations hence the incumbent must be able to ensure that all sites attain & maintain the ISO certification thus adhering to statutory regulations and maintaining existing contracts and ensuring that Sandvik will be able to get new business contracts.

Experience in both underground and surface mining operations will be a distinct advantage.

Full physical & medical certificate to work in mining environment is a pre - requisite.
