Responsible for ensuring the development, implementation, and enforcement of Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) standards and practices. This role ensures that all business units operate efficiently, sustainably, and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and Old Mutual policies and standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
SHE Management and Compliance • Designs, implements, and oversees the Group-wide SHE strategy, policies, and procedures. • Ensures compliance with all relevant local, national, and international SHE legislation and standards. • Monitors and reports on SHE performance, including incident reporting, investigations, audits, and corrective actions. • Leads SHE risk assessments and drives risk mitigation initiatives across operational sites. • Promotes a proactive safety culture through training, awareness campaigns, and behavioural safety programs. • Drives staff wellness programs for the Group.
Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship: • Leads initiatives to reduce environmental impact, such as waste reduction, energy efficiency, and sustainable sourcing. • Oversees environmental compliance monitoring, including emissions, waste disposal, and resource usage. • Supports ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) reporting and data collection.
Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Health and Safety, or related field. • 8+ years’ experience in operations and SHE leadership roles, ideally in a multi-site or group-level capacity. • Strong knowledge of operational processes, SHE legislation, and international standards. Proven track record in fostering a safety-first culture.
