The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) is a statutory body established to regulate the energy sector in Zimbabwe. Its mandate includes ensuring the provision of a level playing field for safe, reliable, and sustainable energy supply through effective regulation. ZERA is committed to promoting energy efficiency and sustainable development within the energy sector.

Position Overview
ZERA is seeking a highly competent, results-driven, and innovative individual to join its team as a Research and Energy Efficiency Engineer. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing energy efficiency initiatives, supporting policy implementation, and contributing to research and regulatory compliance within the energy sector.

The position reports directly to the Chief Engineer: Electricity.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
-Managing and coordinating energy efficiency projects and programmes undertaken by the Authority and partner institutions
-Assisting in the development and enforcement of energy efficiency codes, standards, regulations, and energy management systems
-Identifying, investigating, and implementing energy efficiency pilot projects to promote new technologies
-Ensuring compliance with minimum energy performance standards and energy management regulations
-Supporting the conceptualisation, development, and evaluation of energy research projects
-Conducting research and contributing to the development of energy sector policies
-Advising and educating consumers and stakeholders on efficient energy use
-Developing promotional and educational materials on energy efficiency awareness
-Facilitating and coordinating seminars, workshops, exhibitions, and awareness campaigns
-Assisting in energy data collection, analysis, and reporting

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
-A BSc Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
-At least 5 years of relevant experience in the energy sector, with a minimum of 2 years at a mid-management level, particularly in energy management or intensive energy use environments
-Professional certification such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Certified Energy Auditor (CEA)
-Demonstrated knowledge of energy efficiency and energy management practices
-Proven experience in project management and research
-Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams

Added Advantage:
-A Master’s degree in a relevant field
