job Description

Care International is seeking a qualified and experienced Project Director for the anticipated USAID-funded Agriculture Private Sector Activity in Zimbabwe. The primary objective of this initiative is to enhance the capacity of private sector partners in deploying climate-smart agricultural technologies and practices in rural areas. The Project Director will also be responsible for ensuring that private sector partners acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to train smallholder farmers, thereby improving farm production.

Duties and Responsibilities

-Oversee the overall management and implementation of the project, ensuring alignment with the project work plan.
-Translate project goals into implementable strategies in collaboration with staff and partners.
-Manage operational, financial, and administrative priorities.
-Communicate and enforce adherence to CARE and project policies, guidelines, and values.
-Act as the primary liaison between all project stakeholders, cultivating strong private sector partnerships.
-Maintain productive relationships with USAID clients, project partners, and key counterparts.
-Mentor and coach staff to ensure impact within agreed timelines.
-Directly supervise key technical team members and ensure project synergy across different offices.
-Serve as the primary project liaison from CARE to the donor, ensuring achievement of results and maintaining service quality.
-Supervise staff and partners in identifying technical assistance needs and executing contracts.
-Design and oversee the annual project cycle in line with USAID’s planning cycle.
-Direct planning and budgeting processes.
-Prepare quarterly and annual project activity reports.

Qualifications and Experience

-Master’s Degree (or international equivalent) in MSc, MPH, MBA, MHA, MPA, or equivalent.
-Ten plus (10+) years of progressively responsible senior experience in international development.
-Experience in capacity development and systems strengthening, with a focus on local governance.
-Knowledge of agricultural development, particularly experience with private sector engagement in Zimbabwe.
-Familiarity with sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture practices.
-Demonstrated experience managing USAID-funded or similar-sized projects.
-Ability to recruit, train, develop, and manage staff.
-Ability to manage agreements and fulfill programmatic and financial reporting requirements.
-Effective written and communication skills in English.
-Commitment to principles of Gender Equity, Diversity, Belonging, and Inclusion.
-Commitment to Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Harassment (PSEAH).
-Willingness to travel within Zimbabwe as required.
