A local faith based Non-Governmental Organization involved in development, advocacy and humanitarian
work seeks to fill the following vacant positions:
1. JOB TITLE: PROJECT ASSISTANT (EMERGENCY CHOLERA RESPONSE) x 1 (4
months)
Purpose of the position
The Project Assistant is mainly responsible for assisting in planning, and implementation of an
emergency cholera response Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) program in urban areas.

Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct community mobilization and sensitization of emergency cholera response
activities.
 Facilitate the selection of the most vulnerable members of the communities (women, men,
children, people with disabilities) in need of emergency cholera response support
 Assist in the development of awareness messages on safe sanitation and hygiene practices
to prevent the spread of cholera.
 Assist in facilitating community awareness and trainings on safe sanitation and hygiene
practices to curb the spread of cholera
 Lead in the distribution of cholera prevention Information, Education and Campaign (IEC)
materials
 Monitors and follow-up on the community health workers and volunteers to ensure the
proper dissemination of awareness messages on cholera
 Provide technical advice to community health workers and promoters on ways to promote
safe hygiene practices in communities.
 Conduct assessments in cholera treatment centres to identify the needs for cholera patients
and the needs to prevent the spread of infections from cholera treatment centres.
 Lead in the distribution of non-food items (NFIs) in cholera treatment centres
 Conduct community assessments to identify the WASH non-food items (NFIs) of the
vulnerable groups in communities including women, children and people with disabilities
(PWDs).
 Lead in the distribution of WASH NFIs to the vulnerable groups in targeted communities
 Conduct monitoring and follow-up to ensure proper usage of WASH NFIs
 Support the Ministry of Health ad Child Care and City Council authorities to conduct routine
water quality monitoring
 Provide water treatment recommendation to ensure the public are consuming safe water
free of physical, microbial and chemical contaminants associated with the spread of
waterborne diseases
 Carry out other additional duties as assigned by line-manager.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health, Health Promotion or Water and Sanitation
related degrees
 At least 2 years’ traceable experience in WASH in emergencies
 Demonstrate knowledge in Hygiene Promotion, Risk Communication and Community
Engagement approaches
 Knowledge in water quality monitoring, and waterborne diseases surveillance
 Good engagement skills with local leaders and beneficiaries
 Committed to the humanitarian principles and standards including the protection and
safeguarding principles
