Job Context
The Youth Green Transition Project, implemented by Hivos in partnership with the Bulawayo Vendors and Traders Association (BVTA) in Bulawayo and Green Governance Zimbabwe Trust (GGZT) in Mutare, with support from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, aims to empower young people in both cities to lead sustainable, climate-resilient urban food systems through sustainable urban agribusiness growth. Phase two of the project builds on previous successes and aims to achieve three main goals:

Objective 1: Increase the capacity of youth-led agribusinesses in Mutare and Bulawayo to become export-ready, enabling them to access regional and international markets (60 Youth agribusinesses have improved export readiness (60% women).

Objective 2: Cultivate environmentally conscious youth businesses that integrate sustainable practices into their operations such as water harvesting techniques drought mitigation strategies, ensuring resilience against climate-related challenges (40 Youth agribusinesses have increased awareness and adoption of environmentally sustainable practices (60% women).

Objective 3: Advocacy to promote sustainable consumption and ease of doing business

Through these trainings in smart agriculture, export readiness, value addition, entrepreneurship, and policy engagement, the project aims to nurture a new generation of youth leaders equipped to address the challenges of climate change and food insecurity in urban settings. The Youth Green Transition project is a complimentary project to the Urban Futures Project; hence the intern will work closely with the Urban Futures Team.

Role Purpose
The Intern will provide administrative, coordination and technical support to the Hivos project team in the implementation of the Youth-led Green Transition project. The role is designed to strengthen project delivery across training, mentoring, policy dialogues, monitoring, communications and partner coordination. The Intern will work closely with the Hivos Project Coordinator, Project Officer, Finance Officer based in Harare and local implementing partners based in Mutare and Bulawayo to ensure smooth and timely execution of project activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Project Implementation Support
-Assist in organising and coordinating project activities including inception and learning events, ZITF participation and policy dialogues.
-Support logistics: venue bookings, invitations, participant communication, travel arrangements, procurement requests, and materials preparation.
-Maintain updated activity schedules and follow up with partners to ensure timely implementation.

Monitoring, Documentation and Reporting
-Support data collection from partners, youth agribusinesses and training activities.
-Contribute to drafting activity reports, minutes, field visit notes and success stories.

Partner Coordination
-Liaise with implementing Partners to track progress on deliverables, support documentation, and help resolve minor implementation bottlenecks.
-Support communication and follow-up with youth agribusinesses participating in the export readiness and resource efficiency cohorts.

Communications & Visibility
-Assist in preparing communication content including social media posts, briefs, field stories, and branding materials under Objective 3.
-Support documentation of case studies from youth-led agribusinesses and demo sites.

Administrative & Financial Support
-Assist in processing activity requisitions, payment requests and liquidation support.
-Maintain an organised filing system (digital and physical) for project documentation.
-Provide general office and administrative support to the project team.

Qualifications and Experience

Education and Knowledge
-A degree (completed or in progress) in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Environmental Science, Development Studies, Economics, Social Sciences, or related fields.
-Knowledge of climate action, green technologies, youth entrepreneurship, MSMEs or food systems is an added advantage.

Skills
-Strong organisational and administrative skills.
-Good written and verbal communication abilities.
-Research, data collection and basic M&E skills.
-Ability to work with diverse groups including youth entrepreneurs, local partners and local authorities.
-Competence in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic digital communications tools.

Experience
-Prior internship or volunteer experience in development projects, youth programs, climate/food systems work, or business support is an advantage.
-Experience working with community groups, youth networks, or small businesses is desirable.
