Background
We are seeking highly qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Cook. We are a registered Private Voluntary Organisation (PVO 125/23). Our activities occur primarily in the technical areas of health system strengthening; epidemiology and strategic information strengthening, health workforce development; operations research and evaluation; and prevention, care, and treatment of infectious diseases.
Position Summary
This position requires an experienced individual with strong culinary skills and creativity in the planning, preparation, and serving of nutritious meals for staff while maintaining high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen and canteen area.
Meal Preparation and Service:
-Develop and execute daily meal plans, considering factors such as dietary preferences, nutritional needs, seasonal availability, and cost.
-Ensure timely preparation and service of staff teas and lunches between 0900-1000hrs and 1200-1300hrs.
-Prepare and serve teas and lunches for meetings as requested, maintaining consistency and quality.
-Stay updated on industry trends and innovations to keep the menu fresh and appealing.
Canteen Cleanliness and Hygiene:
-Maintain high levels of cleanliness in the kitchen, canteen, and storage areas, including proper sanitation of equipment and utensils.
-Ensure kitchen equipment (e.g., fridges, stove, and countertops) is kept in excellent working order and meets hygiene standards.
-Perform regular deep cleaning of all kitchen areas and equipment.
Inventory Management:
-Regularly monitor and manage inventory levels of ingredients, consumables, and kitchen supplies.
-Submit timely requests to replenish stock to avoid shortages.
-Keep accurate records of ingredient usage, wastage, and inventory turnover.
Record Keeping and Reporting:
-Keep records of daily food production, ingredients usage, and any special dietary requirements.
-Monitor food wastage and provide monthly reports on food consumption and stock usage.
Adherence to Health and Safety Standards:
-Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, including proper food handling and storage practices.
-Report any kitchen equipment malfunctions or safety hazards immediately to the Supervisor.
-Culinary Arts qualification from a recognized institution.
-At least 3 years’ experience working as a chef, preferably in a high-volume kitchen or hotel environment.
-Minimum of 5 O’ Level passes.
-Culinary creativity and the ability to develop new recipes.
-Attention to detail in food preparation and presentation.
-High standards of personal cleanliness and appearance.
-Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
-Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
