CeSHHAR Zimbabwe is an organisation that specialises in population health research and programming, including on sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS. CeSHHAR has an extensive national, regional, and international academic and community partnership network. CeSHHAR has a diverse range of funders which include the Wellcome Trust, Gates Foundation, United States NIH, UK Medical Research Council, European Commission, Templeton World Charity Foundation, and Global Fund for AIDS TB and Malaria. We partner very closely with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (UK), Zimbabwe's Ministry of Health and Child Care, National AIDS Council, International and regional centres of research excellence to evaluate national programmes and determine the impact, uptake, and cost effectiveness of novel reproductive health interventions.
The Nurse Counsellor will work directly under the supervision of the Site Manager/Lead, and will be responsible for delivering comprehensive clinical services, (HIV prevention and treatment, Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) care, and health information dissemination) to all high risk populations in their diversity across multiple platforms, i.e., static clinics, local outreach, night outreach, and mobile sites. This role ensures that clients receive timely, high-quality, efficient, and effective healthcare services. Additionally, the Nurse Counsellor is responsible for maintaining adequate stocks of essential drugs, commodities, and functional equipment required to support clinical service delivery. The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
Clinical Responsibilities
• Offer comprehensive SRH services (Family Planning, HIV Testing & Counselling, STI screening & treatment etc.)
• Perform routine physical examinations on all clients seen at clinics and mobile sites including checking of vital signs, i.e., BP, Pulse, Temperature.
• Provide comprehensive and safe treatment to all SWs and their clients as per MoHCC guidelines.
• Offer and perform Point Of Care (POC) tests, (rapid HTS, HIVST, Syphilis, CD4, and TB_LAM) as per MoHCC national Algorithms on all eligible clients.
• Conduct pre and post-test and risk reduction counselling to clients attended to at both static and mobile sites.
• Prescribing and dispensing of medicines appropriately according to diagnosis.
• Initiate clients on ART or PrEP according to HIV result of each client as per MoHCC treatment guidelines.
• Always practice Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures to reduce spread of communicable infections.
• Monitoring Adverse Events (AEs) and drug side effects and reporting these to Medical Council Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ).
• Collecting blood samples for drug resistance testing from participants who sero-convert while on PrEP.
• Offering Family Planning counselling services – ability to insert Long-Acting contraceptive devices per clients’ needs is an added advantage.
• Ensuring appropriate clinical care for survivors of sexual assault (GBV) and safeguarding the rights and safety of clients including provision of non-judgmental, non-stigmatizing prevention, treatment, and care services.
Documentation and Reporting
• Document all information from procedures, (History, examination, tests, referrals and treatment) offered to all clients in the relevant source documents (Registers, RedCap, ODK, DHIS2).
• Participate in data verification and compilation of weekly and monthly reports of key indicators.
• Maintaining proper documentation of all clinical and laboratory findings on all program clients.
• Compiling daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly statistics of all indicators and clinic reports.
Quality Control and Inventory Management
• Quality maintenance of site drug rooms and ordering drugs and other clinical sundries.
• Check on drug and commodities stock levels weekly and always maintain adequate stock levels.
• Stock management of all clinic supplies, i.e., maintaining adequate stock levels, maintaining correct drug room temperatures and documenting daily, placing orders on time.
• Ensures Infection Prevention Control measures are well maintained to reduce communicable infections.
Administrative Duties
• Attending clinic and stakeholder meetings, taking minutes. And record keeping.
• Doing any other duties as assigned by the Site Manager/Lead, Regional Coordinator.
• Scheduling of mobile clinic visits and maintaining cordial relationships with other Implementing Partners and health service providers.
• Coordinating outreach activities with Outreach Workers.
Coordination and Integration
• Integration of referrals, layering, and linkage to MoHCC and other Implementing Partners.
• Transitioning of clients to MoHCC facilities after completion of 6 months on ART.
Professionalism and Confidentiality
• Establishing professionalism and respect for privacy and confidentiality amongst all clinical staff and clients.
• Upholding the organisation and nurses’ code of conduct at all times.
Training and Development
• Attend all CeSHHAR Zimbabwe scheduled trainings.
• Keep abreast of current knowledge and trends in the health profession.
• Stay updated on current developments and trends in HIV prevention.
• Degree/Diploma in General nursing.
• Any post basic training such as Midwifery/Psychiatry/Community Nursing.
• Certificate in Rapid HIV certificate.
• ART and PrEP Training
• Forensic certificate.
• Certificate / diploma in counselling an added advantage.
• Family Planning with LARC.
• At least 3 years post - graduate relevant working experience.
• Experience working in NGO sector, especially in HIV/AIDS programming.
• Good knowledge on use of Microsoft word, excel and power point.
• Good interpersonal communication skills and having high respect for confidentiality.
• Good report writing skills
