Background: The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in conjunction with the State Department of Gender and Affirmative Action and members of the development partners gender group will be hosting the National Sector Gender Working Group Workshop on May 31st, 2024. To plan for and facilitate the said workshop, USAID/KEA requires a seasoned media personality and facilitator with technical expertise to coordinate workshops involving high-level stakeholders.

Scope of Work: The National Sector Gender Workshop Facilitator will moderate the meeting on May 31, 2024.

Duties and Responsibilities

Creation of a facilitation plan that gives a detailed flow of the event.
Moderating and transitioning between the various sessions of the agenda as the Master of Ceremony, namely:
Facilitate the panel discussion with the sub-working group leads. This session is designed to provide the audience a better understanding of the working groups’ achievements, lessons, and challenges and how new opportunities/GoK priorities like the distribution of sanitary towels or cross-cutting themes like digitalization are weaved through the sub-working groups’ work streams.
Moderate the responses from the online platform to stimulate discussion during plenary. These responses will also allow the NSGWG to collect feedback from the audience regarding the priorities and objectives of each sub-working group, which may be used later to reinforce or redirect their six-month action plans to reflect the national gender priorities and commitments better.
In coordination with the State Department of Gender and Affirmative Action, coordinate the photo session – during the first health break.
Moderate the session for the official launch of the Strategic Plans.
Engage the participants using various IT platforms during the meeting, such as the use of the QR code, responses coming in through the online platform, feedback forms, etc.
Provide housekeeping updates throughout the meeting: location of restrooms, lactating room/ prayer room, coffee, reminding participants to stop by the reception table to sign in, and sharing information about the marketplace/ exhibitions. eNcB8xf BnOCYK
Timekeeping: manage the agenda and move the meeting forward for each session, paying attention to the requisite protocols and time allocated.
Provide inputs to a one-pager developed by the rapporteurs to ensure that they are well-synthesized and capture high-level highlights from the meeting.
Participate in a dry-run of the event prior to the event.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, such as communication, journalism, gender studies or related subject.
Over 10 years of demonstrated expertise in moderating workshops or similar events, particularly those involving high-level stakeholders and gender subject matter.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of gender issues in Kenya, with experience working in gender-related projects, programs, or initiatives. The facilitator should be able to incorporate an understanding of topical gender issues in Kenya into the workshop’s discussions and activities, ensuring that gender considerations are integrated into all aspects of the event.
Strong facilitation skills to coordinate various aspects of the workshop, such as the panel sessions, feedback collection using various online platforms, timekeeping, and providing inputs for summary documents.
Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, manage time effectively whilst adhering to the agenda, and ensuring the meeting progresses smoothly within allocated timeframes.
Capacity to work collaboratively with the State Department of Gender and Affirmative Action and other stakeholders to coordinate logistical aspects of the workshop, such as coordinating photo sessions and facilitating the official launch of Strategic Plans.
Preference will be given to candidates with significant experience and a proven track record in the Kenyan media sector, particularly those who are prominent influencers and have demonstrated proficiency in engaging diverse audiences and effectively communicating complex issues.
