UNICEF Zimbabwe is inviting applications for a national individual to support the MoPSE to develop comprehensive Climate Education Learning Materials for Junior Primary and Lower Secondary schools.The consultant will review relevant climate education documents from both MoPSE and other government Ministries, agencies and departments ensure active participation from all stakeholders, guide discussions in the drafting and validation workshops to identify key concepts and gaps and consolidate outputs into a practical climate education learning material.

BACKGROUND
Zimbabwe faces numerous climate-related challenges, including droughts, floods, erratic rainfall patterns, and rising temperatures. These changes significantly impact various sectors, including agriculture, water resources, health, and education. The education sector is particularly vulnerable to disruptions caused by extreme weather events, which can damage school infrastructure, interrupt learning, and affect student attendance. In response, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE), in with support from UNICEF, supported development of Climate Education Teacher Training Modules for Junior Primary and Lower Secondary aimed at enhancing climate education, strengthening preparedness and resilience building. The developed climate education teacher training modules will be completement by learning materials for learners to enhance teaching and learning outcomes. This initiative aligns with the broader goals of disaster risk management and resilience in schools, as outlined in the Disaster Risk Management and Resilience Plan for the Education Sector in Zimbabwe.

Duties and Responsibilities

ASSIGNMENT:
The assignment will consist of 54 days (from 28 July to 19 September 2025), focusing on the following:
-Preparation for learning material development
-Desk review of relevant climate education documents from both MoPSE and other government Ministries, agencies and departments.
-Developing a detailed workshop agenda in consultation with MoPSE and UNICEF.
-Prepare workshop materials, including presentations, discussion guides, and group work templates with interactive facilitation. Coordinate with the organizing committee to ensure all logistical arrangements are in place.
-Workshop for Development of Learning Materials
-Facilitate the three-day workshop, ensuring active participation from all stakeholders.
-Use the developed climate education teacher training modules for junior primary and lower secondary, to influence learning materials content for the same levels.
-Lead group work sessions to design specific components of the training module (e.g., curriculum content, teaching methods, resources). Consolidate group work outputs into cohesive learning materials.
-Validation of Learning Materials
-Compile a comprehensive workshop report summarizing the discussions and key concepts into learning materials
-Provide recommendations for the final development, implementation, and evaluation of the learning materials
-Facilitate validation workshop and produce validation report
-Validation workshop and finalized learning materials
-Approval of the learning materials

Qualifications and Experience

Education:
-Masters degree in Education,Climate,Disaster Risk Management or any relevant area of study

Experience:
-Minimum 5 years of experience in creating and facilitating training sessions, workshops, or educational activities related to climate change, disaster risk management, and resilience or any other relevant area.

Desirable:
-Previous work with UNICEF/other UN agencies or other national, regional or international institution (public or private)

Language requirements:
-Fluency in English is required
