BACKGROUND
UNICEF, through the ECHO HIP 2023 program, implemented activities across the Health, WASH, and Child Protection sectors in Harare and Bulawayo Province. The project aimed to reduce mortality and morbidity from cholera, typhoid, and other waterborne diseases, targeting hotspot suburbs within three local authorities. The intervention benefited approximately 1 million people, focusing on strengthening decentralized humanitarian coordination, health surveillance, early action, and rapid response mechanisms. The project adopted an integrated, multisectoral approach combining WASH, Health, and Child Protection to improve disaster preparedness and address critical public health challenges. Given the extensive implementation and outcomes, UNICEF seeks to document the evidence generated to facilitate learning, inform future programming, and enhance knowledge sharing.
