Role Overview We are seeking an experienced and legally proficient Mining Consultant to lead our mining advisory division. This role requires deep expertise in mining legislation, land/prospecting rights, mining claim pegging and acquisition, and the legal frameworks governing mining operations. The ideal candidate will guide local and international investors through the full lifecycle of acquiring, registering, and legally maintaining mining claims while ensuring full environmental and regulatory compliance.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities 1. Claim Acquisition & Registration Guide investors and clients through the complete statutory process of acquiring mining rights, from securing Prospecting Licences to physical pegging, posting of Discovery/Registration Notices, and final registration. Interface directly with the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development and regional Mining Commissioners to facilitate titles, certificates of registration, and Special Grants. Conduct title searches and due diligence to verify claim ownership, resolve boundary overlaps, and avoid disputed properties. 2. Legal & Regulatory Compliance Ensure all client mining activities strictly adhere to governing legislation (e.g., Mines and Minerals Act, environmental regulations, and local authority by-laws). Oversee mandatory operational compliance, including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), tributing agreements, and statutory production returns. Draft, review, and negotiate legal agreements for joint ventures, tributes, claim transfers, and mining leases. 3. Operational Advisory & Investor Support Provide strategic counsel to domestic and foreign investors on mining entry strategies, mineral rights acquisition, and risk mitigation. Liaise with government bodies, environmental agencies, and local community authorities to secure operational permits. Advise on surface rights negotiations with landowners and rural district councils.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Law, Geo-Information/Surveying, Mining Engineering, Geology, or LL.B. with a specialization in Energy & Mineral Resources Law. Experience: Minimum of [e.g., 5+ years] in mining consultancy, regulatory affairs, or legal practice focused on mining title acquisitions and operations. Technical & Legal Competence: In-depth mastery of national mining acts, cadastre procedures, and mineral rights administration. Thorough understanding of pegging procedures, GPS/mapping systems, and provincial mining office workflows. Proven experience resolving mining disputes, tributes, and title transfers. Soft Skills: Strong analytical capabilities, legal drafting skills, negotiation expertise, and public speaking ability for high-level client consultations. Networking: Established working relationships with regulatory bodies, geological departments, and legal authorities.
