MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
Reporting to the Head of department of Biomedical and Laboratory Sciences, this position is pivotal in preparing competent health professionals through quality practical training, clinical laboratory service provision, and applied research. It supports the University’s student-centred teaching approach and its commitment to enhancing laboratory-based training and service delivery.
-Perform routine and complex laboratory tests in haematology, chemistry, immunohematology,and microbiology
-Operate and maintain laboratory equipment per CLIA/OSHA standards
-Correlate laboratory data with patient conditions under college supervision
-Participate in quality control and assurance initiatives
-Conduct and supervise undergraduate biochemistry practicals
-Plan, set up and undertake controlled experiments and trials
-Maintain, calibrate, clean and test laboratory equipment
-Order and maintain laboratory stock and resources
-Provide technical support
-Write laboratory reports
-Carry out risk assessments; record and analyze data;
-Any other job-related duties as may be assigned
-Either a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences (HBMLS) Degree or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science/Technology with specialization in Haematology Microbiology, Immunology, and Clinical Biochemistry from a reputable institution recognized by Africa University
-A background of laboratory Quality Management System implementation would also be an added advantage.
-Eligibility for registration by the Medical Laboratory and Clinical Scientists Council of Zimbabwe
-At least two (2) years as an Intern State Certified Medical Laboratory/Cyto/Blood Transfusion Technician in an accredited laboratory
-High level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct
-Commitment to a student-centered learning environment
-Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks efficiently
-Willingness to engage in continuous learning and skills development
