Vacancy: Media and Communications Officer Duty Station: Harare Organization: Local NGO A leading network of non-governmental organizations that works to promote peace, human rights and democratic governance in Zimbabwe seeks to employ a Media and Communications Officer. JOB SUMMARY The Media and Communications Officer reports to the Programmes Coordinator and will be responsible for development of content and dissemination of information on behalf of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ▪ Development and maintenance of relations with press as well as media. ▪ Writing of press statements, advisories, and other relevant materials. ▪ Communicate clearly and in a timely fashion with external audiences, face to face, through email, telephone, conferences where appropriate and other forms. ▪ Support the National Director to develop and foster high quality standards and guidelines for the organization’s communications across different media and formats. ▪ Execution of deep content knowledge as well as relevant expertise to organization’s projects and general operations ▪ Liaison with the reporters and write press responses. ▪ Creating brand awareness for the organization. ▪ Drafting speeches and letters for the National Director and maintain relationships with the press. ▪ Leading the organization’s Social Media strategy ▪ Dissemination of monthly reports and other media products ▪ Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Experience
Education and experience An honors degree in information/media Experience At least 2 years’ experience working with the media Specific skills • Knowledge and experience of media and communications • Familiar with the press and what reporters require • Good communication and information skills. • Social media skills • Excellent writing skills • Team player who is fluid and able to work independently while respecting the needs of others.
