Vacancy: Learning and Database Lead

Duty Station: Harare

Organization: Local non-profit organization in the Human Rights sector

Summary of the Position

The position is based in Harare with regular travel throughout the country. The post is
expected to advise, lead, and deliver on the research agenda of the organization, monitor and
evaluate project implementation as well as maintain the organizational database to ensure
the production of data, information and reports that pass the quality assurance and quality
control test.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Team Leader, the Learning and Database Lead will:
• Conduct substantive research assignments using relevant qualitative and quantitative
methods.
• Lead the learning function of the organization through planning and coordination of
lightning sessions to ignite new and refined thinking.
• Unpack the research agenda by advising and developing the most suitable methods in
consultation with Programmes and the Team Leader
• Conduct primary and secondary research advising on the design and analysis of datasets
• Analyse and interpret all collected data in well-written reports and presentations.
• Regularly review information collected by all team members, identify gaps and initiate
research accordingly
• Manage database for purposes of research and other projects including maintenance, and
protection of data in line with data protection policies of the organisation.
• Input collected information onto databases promptly and ensure that storage and
archiving procedures are functioning correctly.
• Review and clean data to ensure quality, accuracy, and completeness, and maintain data
standards.
• Monitor all project activities’ progress towards achieving outputs.
• Produce reports with results updates.
• Contribute to the compilation of narrative reports to funding partners.
• Contribute to proposal writing and project design.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications and Skills
• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Development studies, Human Rights, Social Sciences
Computer science, Computer engineering or Information systems, or equivalent
• Post-graduate qualification in Research and/or Database Management from a
reputable institution an added advantage
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in research, research design and analysis, monitoring
and evaluation and database management
• Experience with large datasets and statistical analysis
• Competence in using computer packages including Excel, Access, SPSS, MySQL, NVIVO
and ArcGIS
• Conceptual analytical and evaluative skills to conduct independent research and
analysis
• Excellent oral, writing and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals
• Ability to work under pressure and put in extra hours
