job Description

SNV is a not-for-profit international development organization dedicated to making a lasting difference in the lives of people living in poverty by assisting them in raising incomes and accessing basic services. Focusing exclusively on agriculture, energy, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), SNV operates with premium quality in over 25 countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. With a long-term, local presence, SNV's team of over 1,300 staff members is committed to operational excellence every day.

SNV is seeking an Interactive Knowledge Platform Consultant to provide technical support for the rollout of climate-related policies to youth, women, and people with disabilities in Zimbabwe. The consultant will focus on implementing the Climate Change Gender Action Plan, NDC, NAP, NCCLS, National Youth Policy, and other critical climate-related policies and strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities

The effects of climate change are increasingly evident, posing significant challenges to economies globally. Developing countries like Zimbabwe are particularly vulnerable due to low adaptive capacities, limited climate knowledge, and dependence on climate-sensitive sectors. Addressing this challenge requires innovative thinking, new development approaches, and cross-sector partnerships.

Zimbabwe has actively engaged in climate change initiatives, signing and ratifying the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement. The country has strengthened its institutional framework for climate change management, developing various policies, strategies, and action plans. In its Revised Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), Zimbabwe committed to a 40% emission reduction target by 2030, emphasizing sectors such as energy, waste, agriculture, and forestry. The government also formulated a National Adaptation Plan to enhance the country's capacity to address climate change impacts.

In collaboration with the Climate Change Management Department, SNV Netherlands Development Organisation, supported by the NDC Partnership Action Fund, is undertaking a project to empower youth, women, and people with disabilities in implementing Zimbabwe's climate-related policies. This initiative aims to contribute to Zimbabwe's climate commitments by 2030 while addressing gender inequalities exacerbated by climate change.
