CENTRE FOR INNOVATION AND INCUBATION (1 Post)
Intellectual Property Manager
Reporting to the Director, Centre for Innovation and Incubation and shall be
responsible for:
Duties and Responsibilities
▪ Formulating and implementing strategies and procedures for identifying,
protecting, and managing the University’s intellectual property portfolio.
▪ Operationalising the University’s Intellectual Property Policy by developing
the relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
▪ Providing guidance and training to faculties, researchers, and students
about intellectual property rights, patent processes, copyright issues, and
best practices for protecting their innovations.
▪ Assessing the commercial potential of inventions and works, determining
whether to pursue patents, trademarks, or other forms of protection.
▪ Facilitating partnerships with industry, negotiating licensing agreements,
and ensuring that agreements align with the university’s mission and goals.
▪ Ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to
intellectual property and developing university policies on IP management.
▪ Assisting researchers in navigating the commercialisation process, including
funding opportunities, start-up creation, and partnerships.
▪ Monitoring the use of the University’s intellectual property and taking action
to protect it against infringement or misuse.
▪ Building and maintaining strong networks with relevant stakeholders and any
other related duties as assigned by the Director.
Qualifications and Experience
▪ A relevant Master’s Degree.
▪ A Bachelor’s degree in Law or other relevant degree.
▪ Possession of a PhD degree and/or a Postgraduate qualification in Intellectual
Property is an added advantage.
▪ At least three (3) years post-qualification experience, two (2) of which should be
at managerial level.

▪ Excellent written and oral communication skills.
▪ Good organisational skills.
