The World Health Organization (WHO) is dedicated to achieving the highest possible level of health for all. The Health and Climate Change Officer will play a crucial role in promoting health, ensuring global health coverage, and responding to health emergencies related to climate change. The officer will focus on building resilience, adaptive capacity, and addressing adverse health effects caused by climate change in Zimbabwe.

Duties and Responsibilities

-Advocate and build partnerships: Coordinate with UN partner agencies, represent health in the climate change agenda, and disseminate information on climate change threats and health opportunities.
-Monitor science and evidence: Coordinate scientific reviews on climate change and health links, assess the country's preparedness, and develop a research agenda.
-Strengthen national capacities: Enhance the resilience of health systems to climate change effects and support capacity building for health vulnerability reduction.
-Build capacity on climate change and human health: Assist the country in building capacity to mitigate health risks related to climate change.

Under the supervision of the Healthier Populations Team Lead, the UN Volunteer will undertake specific tasks:
-Coordinate the development of policies and standards on climate and health in Zimbabwe.
-Promote the implementation of Solar for Health at institutions, including health facilities.
-Manage routine updates and ensure the technical integrity of tools and knowledge resources for climate change and health.
-Drive research and lead the development of recommendations on the health impacts of climate change.
-Oversee updates of WHO databases on climate change and health policies and regulations.
-Provide technical support to the country on climate change and health, including capacity development.
-Represent WHO in partnerships and initiatives on climate change and health.
-Contribute to other technical work in climate change and health as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

-Minimum of 3 years of experience working on climate change and health issues.
-Extensive experience in developing and applying knowledge resources and tools for climate change and health interventions.
-Experience in organizing capacity-building workshops for climate change and health.
-Experience in preparing funding proposals and budgets for projects or activities at the country or regional level.
