Zimbabwe Program
The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), in collaboration with partners, implements a cross-border initiative focused on the intersection of peacebuilding and migration within Zimbabwe and South Africa. This program works to address issues of migration and displacement, promote social cohesion between people on the move and host communities, and advocate for their rights and dignity.

TITLE: Fundraising Intern

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION
The fundraising Internship offers emerging professionals the opportunity to contribute to AFSC’s strategic fundraising initiatives. The intern will focus on donor research to identify prospects whose values align with AFSC priorities. Assignments will vary each from time to time and are developed in collaboration with the intern’s supervisor. The intern will gain exposure to philanthropy, nonprofit strategy, and social justice issues.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Strategic institutional planning
• Acquire knowledge of programs and AFSC’s overall migration approaches.
• Establish a comprehensive understanding of the regional and global context as it relates to social justice, forced displacement, and migration.
Project coordination & implementation
• Obtain experience in the use and development of project management and coordination tools.
• Gain experience in researching, identifying, and profiling CSOs and INGOs for potential partnerships.
• Build competency in drafting high‑quality concept notes that align with donor requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Conduct donor research to identify prospects whose values align with AFSC priorities in Zimbabwe
• Updating the fundraising plan.
• Assist in gathering data for grant applications and tracking deadlines.
• Support the drafting of concept notes for grant applications.
• Research and identify CSOs and INGOs for potential partnerships and create a database
• Create social media content and newsletters to highlight the impact of AFSC work in Zimbabwe and South Africa.
• Research and prepare write-ups on emerging issues in the sub-region related to peace, migration, and displacement.
• Write clear, evidence‑based program updates that communicate progress, challenges, and lessons learned.
• Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
• Operates safely in all conditions and follows policies and procedures.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in sociology, international relations, public administration, political science, or related fields preferred.
• A minimum of one year, either as an intern or a volunteer in an NGO or civil organization
• Excellent communication and writing skills in English.
• Ability to work effectively independently and within a team environment.
• Experience with standard Microsoft Office and related technology.
• Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse staff.

COMPENSATION
The AFSC offers a competitive rewards package. This position is exempt (monthly stipend), with a comprehensive medical and hospitalization plan.
