Caritas – Mutare is the development arm of the Catholic Church, diocese of Mutare. It identifies with other Catholic Development agencies and provides a beacon of hope for tens of millions of women, men and children in times of hardship and contributes to the development of social justice in times of peace; working with people to bring about positive changes in some of the poorest provinces in Zimbabwe. The agency’s mandate includes integral human development, emergency relief, advocacy, peace building, respect for human rights, and support for proper stewardship of the planet’s environment and resources. Caritas Zimbabwe’s work is its ongoing presence in communities, before, during and after crisis situations as it empowers people to participate more fully in all matters affecting their lives, as well as advocates on their behalf at national and international forums.

Primary functions
The Finance Assistant will be based in Mutare majoring mainly in bookkeeping, logistics, finance and Administration for Cyclone Idai projects. The incumbent should be ready to travel and work outside the Mutare with little or no supervision.

Specific responsibilities
Initiate all admin related expenditures for payments i.e. water, electricity, telephone or
communications expenses as well as procurement of admin assets in accordance with Caritas logistics guidelines; Ensure that all financial reporting is completed on time and submitted to management and donors on time; Assist in providing orientation and training to the organization staff on cost-effective management when need arise; Oversee the financial audit preparations of the project on behalf of the organization Provide financial inputs for proposal development, project management, Human Resource Management policies, logistics, travel and other areas of administration; Assisting in overseeing the financial operations of the organization and ensure timely and accurate financial reports and practices including cash management, payroll, financial disbursements, ledgers etc when need arises; Assist in managing financial controls, prepare and analyze budgets, develop financial reports, and make recommendations to the organization on budget expenditures; Performing any other duties as may be assigned by Caritas Zimbabwe – Mutare Management.

Person specifications
We are looking for a self-motivated individual, an innovative leader who is flexible enough to work more hours depending on the schedule of the program.

The ideal candidate should have
Education: Diploma in Accounting, Business Finance and Knowledge of Pastel Accounting is an Advantage
Experience: 2 years’ experience in finance or accounting
