The Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) leads the United Nations security management system (UNSMS) globally, providing operational support and oversight. The position is located in Pretoria, South Africa, at the Department of Safety and Security.

Duties and Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Field Security Associate is responsible for:
-Assisting in collecting, updating, and communicating security information in Pretoria.
-Liaising and coordinating with host government security organizations, national and local authorities, military, police officers, and NGOs.
-Assessing the security situation and ensuring the gathering of information for proper analysis.
Communicating security issues to UN agency heads and providing host country security advice to UNDSS.
-Maintaining regular contacts with Security Focal Points of UN agencies.
-Assisting in maintaining the Security Plan, updating staff lists, and supporting actions during plan implementation.
-Monitoring security measures implementation recommended in the Security Risks Management process.
-Reporting security incidents affecting UN staff, offices, and assets and preparing security reports.
-Providing support in organizing and conducting training courses on security awareness and preparedness.
-Conducting security briefings and performing other security-related tasks.
-Providing general administrative assistance.

Qualifications and Experience

High school Diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience
Seven (7) years of work experience in security, risk, or disaster/emergency areas with security responsibilities, in public or private service areas, such as national security, military, police, or corporate environments. The minimum experience is reduced to five (5) years for candidates with a first-level university degree or higher. Experience with the UN system or an international NGO is desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft applications and experience in radio communications systems are desirable.

Languages

Fluency in English (oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
