job Description

Ecologist – Terrestrial (D1)
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the above position in Sebungwe Region. The incumbent will be based at Chizarira National Park and will report to the Senior Area Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

-Carries out research projects on terrestrial ecology
-Designing and executing aerial surveys annually for large animal species within the Park
-Developing and Conducting experimental studies in controlled or natural environments,
-Carrying out Environmental Impact Assessment(EIA) for projects within and outside the Park,
-Conducting Field and Laboratory analysis of samples collected,
-Mobilizing resources including funding for research projects,
-Coordinating the collection of data for projects as assigned by the Supervisor,
-Writing research papers, research and scholarly articles,
-Participating in exchange programs to share information and knowledge on research and other conservation issues,
-Attending workshops, seminars, meetings, conferences internally and externally on research projects,
-Analyzing samples collected from the field,
-Contributing towards work plan and budget for the research unit,
-Assist the Senior Area Manager in carrying out the planning functions of the park,
-Monitoring water, fires, roads and fireguards, invasive plant species, vegetation,
-Developing and implementing site conservation strategies for the Park,
-Advising on carrying capacities and possible off takes for hunting and live animal sales,
-Compiling situational, monthly, quarterly, annual and other relevant reports and submit to Senior Area Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

-First Degree in Ecology, or related field of study.
-A Masters in Ecology or related field of study will be an added advantage,
-GIS and Remote Sensing skills,
-Good research skills,
-Team player and result oriented,
-Ability to work with minimum supervision,
-Good analytical skill,
-Computer literacy.
