ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT:
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Zimbabwe works in partnership with the Government of Zimbabwe, humanitarian and development actors, the private sector, and local communities to address immediate food needs while supporting long-term solutions to hunger and malnutrition.
WFP’s portfolio in Zimbabwe is guided by its Country Strategic Plan (CSP 2022–2026), which aligns with national development priorities and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. The CSP focuses on four key areas:
Crisis Response: Providing emergency food assistance during critical periods such as the lean season, with a focus on protecting lives and livelihoods, particularly in response to climate shocks like droughts and floods.
Resilience Building: Supporting communities to strengthen food systems, improve agricultural productivity, diversify livelihoods, and build resilience to climate change through integrated rural and urban programmes.
Nutrition Improvement: Addressing malnutrition, particularly among children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and people living with HIV, while promoting healthy diets and social behaviour change.
Capacity Strengthening: Enhancing the capacity of government institutions to manage food security and nutrition programmes, social protection systems, and emergency preparedness and response.
WFP Zimbabwe is a key partner in supporting the Government’s Food Deficit Mitigation Strategy (FDMS), advancing localization through partnerships with local organizations, and driving innovation in digital solutions, youth empowerment, and private sector engagement. WFP continues to deliver life-saving assistance and invest in long-term, sustainable food security solutions for vulnerable Zimbabwean communities.
THE ROLE:
This position, located at Masvingo Field Office, provides efficient and safe transportation of authorized personnel and/or commodities.
Within delegated authority, the Driver of any means of transport will be responsible for the following duties:
1. Provide transportation of authorized personnel including translation of basic conversations from/to the local language, and/or delivery of various items/commodities following authorized routing and UN safety and security rules and regulations to ensure safe and efficient services.
2. Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport or other entry points and provide basic assistance with visa and customs formalities to facilitate smooth and safe entry and arrival to the authorised destinations.
3. Responsible for accurate maintenance of the vehicle log books, and daily reporting to the supervisor on mechanical status, to ensure efficient vehicle use and fuel consumption supporting accurate accounting and cost-efficiency.
4. Responsible that the assigned vehicle is kept clean and in a good condition including all equipment, the maintenance is done on time, vehicle is fully equipped with required travel authorisations and supplies, and any mechanical issues are reported to the supervisor to ensure safe and efficient services.
5. Follow established rules and regulations for field deliveries and/or in cases of an accident, and report immediately to the supervisor on any apparent problems, to seek for instructions and facilitate informative decisions on the way forward.
6. Negotiate, liase and coordinate with local authorities to facilitate vehicle movements in designated areas
7. Outside driving duties, perform basic office related tasks such as filing, photocopying and maintaining stores when required including delivery/collection of various items, mailing service and payment of office telephone and other bills to ensure administrative support to clients.

Supports team in working with colleagues and WFP’s partners in the field toward common goals. Maintains a professional and courteous relationship with other WFP employees and partners in the field. Good knowledge of the area and the current conditions of roads and highways. Ability to deal patiently, respectfully and tactfully with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. Ability to read and understand specific vehicle operating manuals to ensure safe and appropriate operations of the vehicle.

Education:
-Completion of secondary school education and formal drivers training with a valid driver’s license.
-Defensive Driver’s licence most preferable
Experience:
-At least two years of work experience as a driver, preferably in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a demonstrated safe driving record, safe driving record.
-Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans, trucks and other kinds of motorised vehicles.
Knowledge and Skills:
-Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, local roads and conditions, security issues
-Knowledge of radio, email, telephone and other applications.
-Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans and other kinds of motorised vehicles and skills in minor vehicle repairs experience in the applications of software technology (use of MS Word and/or MS Excel).
-Knowledge of first aid techniques.
Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if different
