FACULTY OF LAW
DEAN, FACULTY OF LAW
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Dean of the Faculty of Law is responsible for providing strategic, academic, and administrative leadership in the implementation of the University’s Strategic Plan at Faculty level. The incumbent is expected to champion the delivery of the University’s Heritage-based Education 5.0 philosophy, encompassing Teaching and Learning, Research, Innovation, Community Service/Outreach and Industrialisation within the context of legal education.

Duties and Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Dean will be responsible for:
 Providing visionary leadership in the advancement of the legal discipline and its contribution to human capital development, governance, and national development.
 Planning, implementing, evaluating, and reporting on the Faculty’s academic
programmes, research outputs, and student performance in line with the University’s mandate.
 Overseeing the implementation of University policies, regulations, systems, and procedures within the Faculty.
 Managing the Faculty’s finances, assets and other resources to advance the University’s Vision and Mission.
 Ensuring a conducive teaching, learning and research environment that promotes the delivery of Education 5.0 within the legal context.
 Advancing innovative teaching methodologies, digitalisation, and knowledge management in legal education.
 Strengthening the Faculty’s engagement with the legal profession, government, industry, commerce, and society to ensure relevance and impact.
 Managing staff performance through Performance Contracts and promoting academic excellence, integrity, and accountability.
 Performing any other duties as may be assigned by the Vice Chancellor.

Qualifications and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
The desired candidate should have the following qualifications and attributes:
 A PhD in Law or related field from a recognised University.
 Extensive experience in higher education, preferably in legal academia and administration.
 A proven record of academic scholarship, publication, mentorship, and contribution to the development of the legal profession.
 Sound knowledge of University academic regulations, legal education standards, and professional accreditation processes.
 Be a team leader and team builder who is open-minded, self-motivated, reliable and efficient, with demonstrable leadership and interpersonal skills.
 Possession of excellent writing, analytical and oral communication skills.
 Be capable of developing strategic solutions, fundraising and budgeting for the Faculty.
