An exciting opportunity exists for a Compliance Assistant to join our team in Johannesburg.
The main purpose of this role is to support the team in ensuring that the company's operations comply with relevant regulations, licenses, and permits.
This role will work closely with the Compliance Specialist, Licensing and Exchange Control Manager, officials of Regulators (i.e. Central Banks), in-country managers and different Mukuru teams, providing necessary support to ensure compliance with regulations and requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but is not limited to):
Assisting the licensing administration team in providing clear and up-to-date guidelines on the application process for various jurisdictions
Assist the /Licensing and Exchange Control Manager to compile and organize the necessary documentation required for license applications, ensuring accuracy and completeness
Create checklists to ensure all regulatory requirements are met during the licensing application process
Generate responses to applications and/or correspondence to Regulators
Receive and maintain records of all correspondence send and received from Regulators
Create and maintain systems to monitor license renewal deadlines and sending timely reminders to the team to initiate renewal processes
Assist in generating accurate compliance reports required by regulatory authorities for license maintenance
Keep the team informed about any changes in licensing regulations and requirements across assigned entities
Share knowledge with internal teams on new regulatory developments and compliance requirements, encouraging a culture of regulatory awareness and responsibility
Generate responses to applications and/or correspondence to Regulators
Receive and maintain records of all correspondence send and received from Regulators
Assist the team in preparing for regulatory audits and examinations, including gathering relevant documents and conducting internal compliance checks
Organise training sessions for the team to ensure they are aware of the latest regulatory requirements and best practices
Assist in responding to any findings or recommendations resulting from regulatory audits
Perform manual regulatory reporting to Regulators and review accuracy of data submitted by other compliance and business departments.
Track all regulatory reporting submissions to ensure timeous submissions
Stay abreast of all regulatory requirements relating to regulatory reporting requirements
Assist with ad hoc questionnaires and other returns requested by Regulators
Draft and maintain regulatory reporting manuals
Collaborate with the team to conduct periodic assessments of regulatory risks associated with licensing activities
Assist in developing and implementing risk mitigation plans to address identified compliance risks
Create and/or maintain and/or update tools to monitor compliance with licensing regulations on an ongoing basis
Identify and implement technology solutions to streamline licensing administration and compliance tasks
Assist in automating repetitive compliance tasks, increasing efficiency and accuracy
Support the team in organising and managing compliance-related data to ensure easy retrieval and reporting

Key Requirements:
Grade 12 or Equivalent
Bachelors degree or Advanced Diploma (Law, finance, business administration, or a related field)
2 years’ Experience with license applications and regulatory interactions
2 years’Experience in regulatory affairs, compliance, or legal roles within the fintech industry
Understanding of global financial regulations, such as AML/KYC, consumer protection, data privacy, and financial services (remittances) licensing requirements
Understanding of financial products and services offered by fintech companies
Knowledge and understanding of license application processes
Knowledge of contracts and commercial agreements
