General Description of the Role
Reporting to the Country Director, the Chief of Party (COP) is responsible for the overall management and representation of the activity. For management, the COP must have proven leadership skills managing projects of a similar size and scope in developing countries. The COP must have prior experience effectively managing USAID development activities. The individual will be responsible for the representation of the activity, the COP must have prior experience working in Zimbabwe, familiarity with the country’s social landscape, and demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with host governments, donors, other donor-funded projects and stakeholders, local organizations, and partners. S/he must understand and demonstrate commitment to the importance of gender and youth issues in food security programming and within staff and management of the activity. Must have demonstrated experience in recruiting, developing, and managing staff, as well as experience managing programmatic and financial reporting.
The ideal person should possess the following:
A Master’s degree in a relevant field (development studies, international relations, agriculture, economics, nutrition, public health, business administration, etc.) combined with at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience leading and implementing USAID or other donor-funded international development programs; Specific technical expertise in food and nutrition security and resilience programming and knowledge of USAID, specifically, Office of Food for Peace programming priorities; Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with host governments, donors, other donor-funded projects and stakeholders, local organizations, and partners; Proven ability to lead multi-sectoral, complex programs of a similar size and scope, preferably in Zimbabwe or Southern Africa; Demonstrated experience recruiting, developing, and managing staff, as well as experience managing programmatic and financial reporting; Ability and willingness to travel frequently; Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills in English.
