job Description

The Youth Empowerment & Transformation Trust (YETT) is a youth networking organisation committed to the full participation of young people in sustainable development through advocacy and capacity building of youth and youth organisations. YETT will facilitate three workshops and facilitate eight internships with USAID/Zimbabwe for underprivileged youth in Zimbabwe. The Internship program is a unique opportunity for Zimbabwean youth to gain practical experience, build skills and launch their careers in different fields.

YETT hereby invites applications from university students going for attachment in the year 2025, to participate in capacity-building sessions aimed at providing crucial professional skills to help youths from underprivileged and diverse communities in Zimbabwe to enter the workforce. For this call, underprivileged and diverse communities in Zimbabwe refer to key and vulnerable populations; youths with disabilities (visible/invisible); youths with HIV; and youths from rural areas. All applications will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.

Duties and Responsibilities

Format:
YETT anticipates facilitating three workshops with students drawn from all the ten provinces of Zimbabwe. Sessions to be covered in these workshops include how to create a resume/curriculum vitae (CV); interview preparation and tips for a successful interview; tips on submitting successful job applications; professional work etiquette; presentation and communication skills; professional use of social media; and job search strategies. The workshops are expected to take place in November 2024 (dates and venues to be advised) with a maximum of 40 students per workshop.

Qualifications and Experience

The selection criteria for each of the three workshops will include.
 3rd year enrolment in a tertiary institution within Zimbabwe
 Enrolment in areas of study relevant to USAID Zimbabwe. These include Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Psychology, Sociology, Business Administration, Business Studies, Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Contracting, Economics, Marketing, Quantitative Methods, Customs, Shipping, Logistics, Purchasing, Security Management, Public Administration, Development Studies,International Relations, Public Policy, Environment, Natural Resource Management, International Development, Communication, English, Media and Digital Studies, Public Health, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Analytics and Informatics, Monitoring and Evaluation of Public Health Interventions.
 Most recent results transcript demonstrating the achievement of a 2.1 grade average or
equivalent.
 A letter from the University/tertiary institution confirming the need for an attachment
-Applicant must represent a priority population e.g., key, and vulnerable populations,
youth with disabilities (visible or invisible), youth with HIV, youth from rural areas, and
young women.
 Demonstration of basic computer literacy skills.
 Should be able to adapt to an international multicultural environment and have good
communication skills.
 Assessment of applicant’s responses to the essay questions in the Google Forms application
link (see How to Apply section below).

How to Apply

Beyond the workshops, eight students who would have attended at least one of the two workshops,
will be provided an opportunity for an internship of at least 8 months within USAID Zimbabwe with
a stipend included. Benefits to be gained from this process include opportunities for interns to gain
industry- standard experience; opportunities for interns to develop new skills; opportunities
to build professional networks; and a foundation for the interns to build their resumes. Selection
criteria for the eight will be done through assessment of performance in tasks given during the three
workshops and ability to secure local USAID security clearance.
