Midlands State University (MSU) is seeking applications from qualified and experienced individuals for the position of Accountant in the Retail Shop Department.
-Lead the management of the cash office.
-Review and capture all petty cash payments, ensuring necessary supporting documents are in place before authorization by the Shop Manager.
-Ensure adherence to all financial regulatory requirements at the shop level.
-Take an active role in preparing the shop's annual and monthly financial budgets.
-Perform scheduled budget-variance analysis and investigate discrepancies, providing recommendations to management.
-Inspect and ensure compliance with the shop's receiving and accounting procedures.
-Review and ensure all inputs into the accounting software have relevant supporting documents, and stock adjustments are duly authorized.
-Capture expense invoices into the accounting software and ensure correct allocation.
-Reconcile Sales & IPOS Control Accounts on a daily basis and clear reconciling items promptly.
-Review Daily Till Operators summaries, authorize them, and post the respective cashbook batches into the accounting system.
-Review and ensure daily bank reconciliations for the shop.
-Reconcile store control accounts, including goods in transit and inter-branch transfers, on a daily basis.
-Maintain the Fixed Asset Register for the store in collaboration with the Loss Control team.
-Prepare financial reports within stipulated deadlines.
-Maintain an efficient filing system for easy retrieval of financial records.
-Liaise with the Head Office Accountant to ensure monthly management reports are accurate and timely.
-Be accountable for producing trading accounts, daily statistics, cash and bank analysis, and expense trackers.
-Assist in safeguarding company resources by ensuring compliance with accounting and internal controls.
-Participate in both Internal and External Audits and work with assigned Audit personnel to address any control gaps noted for the shop.
-Mentor and coach departmental staff.
-Degree or Diploma in Accounting or a related field.
-At least 2 years of working experience in the Retail sector or a related field.
-5 'O' levels, including Mathematics, English, and Accounts.
Skills and Competences:
-Experience in working with executives and providing professional, accurate, and strategic advice.
-Understanding of Human Resource management concepts.
-Familiarity with various statutes governing the operations of a retail supermarket.
