About CNFA and Amalima Loko

CNFA is a US-based non-profit nongovernmental organization (NGO) that works to stimulate economic growth and improve rural livelihoods in the developing world through five core capabilities: (1) Productivity, Food Security and Nutrition; (2) Input Supply and Farm Services; (3) Economic Resilience and Rapid Recovery; (4) Value Chain Development; and (5) Volunteer Technical Assistance. Amalima Loko is a new USAID-funded 5-year program implemented by CNFA and 5 partner organizations which applies community-driven approaches to improve food security, nutrition, and natural resource management in over 80 communal wards in Matabeleland North.

Position Summary

The Value Chain Marketing Coordinator will be responsible for implementing program activities aimed at increasing market and financial linkages for crops and livestock and other off-farm activities, strengthening input and output marketing systems and increasing market information sharing. The Value Chain Marketing Coordinator will report directly to the Agriculture and Livelihoods Lead. S/he will work closely work with other Amalima Loko Technical Coordinators


Responsibilities

Develop and implement the Amalima Loko Value Chain Marketing strategy;

Design and implement marketing activities in the Amalima target districts;

Train technical field officers and producer groups on new entry points into value chains; Train technical field officers on business marketing, market identification and financial literacy to “new entry point” individuals and groups.

Link existing livestock and crops producer groups to formal sector financial service providers;

Plan, organize and support input fairs in the target Amalima Loko Districts;

Maintain professional relationships with a range of Government agencies, statutory authorities, other councils, business proprietors, trader groups and service providers; Work closely with other Amalima Loko team members to manage relationships with actors in the main value chains including livestock (large and small), grains, legumes, horticulture, etc;

Liaise with current market information systems to explore new opportunities for dissemination of information to value chain players, with a focus on the potential use of mobile technology;

Collect and synthesize livestock and crops marketing information, and share this with Amalima Loko producer groups;

Support links between input suppliers, agro-dealers and producers;

Increase capacity of formal and informal farmer groups with training on technical and management skills, and provide information on production volumes in project areas, and locations;

Facilitate marketing arrangements between buyers and sellers in project areas and promotion of local sales where possible;

Act as the primary liaison with international NGOs and Zimbabwe Government agencies for strengthening of relevant value chain and marketing systems.

Engage with M&E Lead on program impact data collection and research opportunities; Work closely with Gender Specialist to ensure gender mainstreaming efforts are a component of all program activities along value chains;

Produce quarterly and annual reports in line with program and USAID requirements.


Qualifications

Degree in Business studies, Economics, Agribusiness/Agriculture or any other relevant qualification;

At least five years of experience managing projects, organizing and delivering trainings in the smallholder farming sector and market development, and value chain experience and project management;

Experience in USAID-funded program(s) and DFAP experience are highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirement

Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders both verbally and in writing;

Demonstrated ability to collaborate, willingness to innovate and ability to think systematically;

Proven experience in managing multiple and competing tasks while maintaining quality of deliverables within deadlines.

Languages

Fluency in spoken and written English is essential. Basic proficiency in spoken IsiNdebele required. Proficiency in other languages spoken in Matabeleland North a plus.
