(i)Requirements for Senior Instrument Specialist Main Purpose of the Job: •Execute complex detailed test procedures with minimal input from researchers. •Maintain and develop new and existing methods to analyse products and materials and provide documentation. •Lead organizational and trouble-shooting activities, with great attention to details. •Initiate innovative instruments-based research ideas. •Provide professional-level laboratory technical support involving the application of scientific research methods and techniques. (ii) Requirements for Instrument Specialist Main Purpose of the Job: •Analyse samples with spectroscopic, chromatographic, thermal analysis and microscopic techniques. •Hands on use of instruments in the above techniques. •Train and coach junior staff, and contractors. •Lead laboratory safety and housekeeping practices.
Requirements
Education: •A PhD in any of the Natural Sciences, Material Science or Polymer Science or related fields with demonstrated analytical skills that include analytical method development. Experience and working knowledge: •Candidate must have at least 10 years’ experience in a research environment, particularly in a chemistry/material science instrumentation laboratory. •Direct research experience would be an added advantage. •Have industry and/or research lab experience in the use and maintenance of specific instruments in at two areas: X-ray based (at least 3 instruments) and spectroscopy or spectrometry based (at least 3 instruments). •Have experience in chromatography, mass spectrometry, thermal analysis and microscopy. •Excellent report writing skills and interpretation of data on specialized instruments that his/her experience is on. OR Education •A Master’s Degree in any of the Physical Sciences with demonstrated analytical skills. Experience and working knowledge: •Candidate should have at least 5 years’ experience in a research environment. •Candidate should have experience in the use and maintenance of specific instruments such as X-ray based (at least 3 instruments) or spectroscopy/spectrometry and microscopy (at least 3 instruments). •Ability to interpret data on specialised instruments. •Good report writing skills.
