Organizational Setting


FAO's Subregional Office for Southern Africa is responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing agreed strategies for addressing subregional food, agriculture and rural development priorities. It develops and maintains relations with Subregion-wide institutions including Regional Economic Integration Organizations (REIOs). It assists the FAO Representations (FAORs) in the subregion with addressing subregional food security, agriculture and rural development issues at country level. The Subregional Office is a subsidiary of FAO's Regional Office for Africa.


Reporting Lines


The incumbent works under the general supervision of the FAO Representative and the direct Supervision of the Head of Administration.


Technical Focus


The Senior Driver is responsible for driving staff and visitors in the Subregional Office. He / she ensures the safety, technical soundness and comfort of the vehicle(s) assigned.


Working Relationships


In his/her function as Senior Driver/ for the Subregional office, the incumbent is in regular contact with staff from all levels of the office, with national and international visitors, including high ranking officials from the Government and other (UN) Agencies, with project managers, consultants and other personnel from within and outside the Organization. He / she is often the first point of contact for people from outside the subregional office. He / she interacts on a day-to-day basis with personnel and officials from local offices and service providers.


Tasks and Responsibilities


Drive the Subregional office staff, their official visitors and other Senior Officials on official trips or on occasions as necessary

Meet staff and official visitors at the airport; facilitate immigration, customs formalities, hotel check-in, and other local formalities;

Log official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, transportation / vehicle related expenditures, vehicle servicing and repairs,

Ensure day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s); checks oil, water, battery, tires, etc.; perform minor repairs and timely arrange for any other repairs necessary to keep the vehicle safe and technically sound at all times; maintain the vehicle(s) in clean condition;

Handle local and organizational formalities when involved in an accident; ensure that in this case all organizational and local / country rules, regulations and procedures are followed correctly;

Collect and deliver mail, documents, pouches, and other communications / items from and to the sub regional office; go to the post office, airport, government agencies, other UN agencies, institutions, project sites, etc., to take and deliver items and communications, keeping records as required;

When needed, assist the office staff in performing simple clerical duties such as making and answering telephone calls, making photocopies, keeping records, etc.;

Brief, supervise and train the junior drivers in all the above duties and responsibilities

Perform other related duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


Five Ordinary level passes and a Diploma in transport/fleet management or a related field;

Four years of work experience as a driver, with a flawless, safe driving record.

At least 5 years of working experience in transport or vehicle fleet management and some working knowledge of auto mechanics;

Experience in supervising other staff/personnel;
