With a strong track record for success, your outstanding talents as a Science Manager are needed to complete and lead a team that are consistently challenged to deliver their best. The Role The Science Manager will report into the Research and Development Manager and will play a crucial role in science competency and ensuring high quality health tech products are developed and maintained. You will be playing a leadership role for science across the business, and will manage a team of science associates, taking ownership of the methods and approaches taken. The role will mean taking every available opportunity to drive initiatives that enhance quality, and science processes and procedures. Key responsibilities include:
  • Playing a key science leadership role where you will focus on uplifting the businesses science competencies, and providing support to the rest of the business in science-related issues
  • Defining the methods and approaches to be adopted by the science teams in supporting the development and/or maintenance of health tech products
  • Establish and continuously improve science processes and procedures to satisfy applicable regulatory requirements
  • Approval of Verification and Validation Plans supporting chemistry testing of health tech products.
  • Recruitment and resource allocation of skilled scientific associates in line with program and business priorities
  • Strategically plan the professional development of science associates in line with business needs and applicable technology trends
  • Establish and maintain a high standard of professionalism and cleanliness in the science team areas (does not include labs)
  • Contribute to budget setting, tracking and forecasting for the science cost centre
About you This is a crucial appointment for the organisation and the success of the person in this role is pivotal to the business continuing to be the best in its field. To be successful you will have a curiosity streak, coupled with an ability to think critically and problem solve. You are someone that always leave things in a much better state than what you found them in. Your eye for quality will be instrumental in ensuring high quality health tech products are developed and managed. Soft skills necessary to succeed in the role include high EQ, good influencing skills, and the ability to lead and inspire excellence. You have innovation in your heart, and a true team spirit that makes you an ideal collaborator able to embrace new ideas and suggest innovations of your own. Your experience and skills should include most, if not all:
  • Minimum 10 years experience in science disciplines
  • Minimum of 2 years experience (ideally more) in team leadership or project management
  • A thorough understanding of good laboratory practices
  • Graduate or post-graduate qualifications in a science related discipline
  • Experience driving process and procedure improvements by heightening quality standards
  • Proven ability to manage a P up to $300K
  • Possess business acumen, critical thinking, highly developed documentation skills, a clear and open communication style, relational and team building skills
  • Enthusiasm for working with internal and external stakeholders and ability to resolve issues
In the 'nice to have' category we have graduate or professional expertise in Immunohistochemistry. A Management or Project Management qualification or certification e.g. Prince2, PMP, PMBOK will also be useful, ultimately though, it is your experience in business development and finance, plus your interpersonal skill set, values and drive, that will ultimately make you the right fit for this role.
