Bursar/Accountant


Qualifications, Experience and Attributes


The position requires an individual with: -


  • At least 5 O Levels including Maths and English
  • Bachelor’s/honour’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or another related accounting degree with a 2.1 pass or better
  • 3+ years experience in a similar role and 2+ years of management experience
  • Experience with budget management is a must for this role
  • Familiarity with spreadsheets and accounting packages such as Pastel is a requirement
  • Demonstrate Competence in Information, Communication and Technology skills
  • Good management and reporting skills
  • Very good interpersonal skills, ability to interact with parents, staff and pupils
  • High emotional intelligence, integrity and ability to work with junior staff and colleagues.
  • Diligence and commitment to the organization’s goals and ethos. 
  • The applicant must be an individual of impeccable character with no criminal record. 


Duties And Responsibilities



  • The successful candidate must be able to: -
  • Control of all SDC accounting procedures
  • Supervise the Assistant Bursar.
  • Create and manage student and other accounts as required by the school
  • Preparing, collecting and administering Levy fees
  • Maintain SDC bank accounts
  • Prepare financial reports and appraisals as required 
  • Produce Final Accounts.
  • Manage the schools' cash flow and advise accordingly.
  • Provide Finance Committee with the Financial Position of the school as required and per request.
  • Provide salary figures for processing and approving the processed draft.
  • Maintain school asset register.
  • Completing cost projection, forecasting, and annual income and expenditure estimates
  • Supervise school projects (managing the financial aspect and advising accordingly)
  • Oversee that all returns have been done before the due date
  • Ensuring compliance with Avondale Primary Accounting standards, Ministry regulations, and State legislative requirements



School Driver 


Responsible for timeously transporting learners, Teachers and conducting daily school errands.


Duties And Responsibilities 


  • Following the planned routes and schedule for departure times and stops
  • Always maintain clean and mechanically sound school vehicles.
  • Maintain a fuel, Mileage, and passenger logbook for each trip
  • Perform inspections of school vehicles before and after each route and maintain a routine maintenance and service logbook
  • Book school vehicles for scheduled routine and emergency servicing with contracted service providers.
  • Ensures safety of all vehicles under his/her care at all material times
  • Ensure the safety of all students, Teachers and all authorized passengers.
  • Assist students with getting on and off the school vehicles as needed
  • Attend safety training and certification as required
  • Does any other duties as assigned by the supervisor

 

Qualifications and Experience and Attributes


  • Be 35+ years old
  • At least 5 O Levels including English
  • Valid and clean Class 1 driver’s license
  • Valid Defensive Driving certificate
  • Valid Government Driver Authorization will be an added advantage
  • At least 5 years of experience driving a school bus
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Resilience, Self-motivation and ability to work long hours under pressure and strict deadlines with minimum supervision. 
  • A high degree of honesty, and integrity. 
  • Respect for colleagues and be a team player. 
  • Good organisational and execution skills 
  • Energetic and physically fit individual of good deportment. 
  • The applicant must be an individual of impeccable character with no criminal record.
