Introduction

The National Democratic Institute (NDI) is currently seeking a diligent, organized, and enthusiastic undergraduate, graduate student, or recent graduate with strong communication skills and demonstrated interest in elections, advocacy, citizen participation, strengthening political parties, civic organizations, and monitoring and evaluation. The intern will work primarily with the Senior Program Officers, the Program Manager, Monitoring and Evaluation Manager, and Programs Director. The anticipated start date for this position is February 2021 for a period of up to six (6) months only.

Primary Responsibilities

Track political and electoral developments; Assist in the organization of travel, meetings, and special events; Attend meetings, briefings, and events; Draft minutes and compile reports of meetings attended; Assist with rapporteuring for workshops and conferences; Assist with administrative tasks such as scanning, photocopying, and filing; Update and maintain databases of NDI election programs and consultants; Update and maintain the CSO Mapping Database for NDI; Maintain files and folders related to the activities of the M&E Unit; Participate in data verification of projects; and Participate in tracking programmatic targets.

Required Education, Skills & Experience

Bachelor’s degree or current graduate student in international affairs, political science or a related field; Demonstrated interest in elections, advocacy and coalition building and citizen engagement; Excellent typing skills; Experience with event planning and managing logistics strongly desirable; Fluency, strong oral and written communication skills in English and one local language; Interest, proficiency and experience in use of new digital technologies and social media platforms with capacity to organise and host virtual meetings including webinars, symposia and tracking social media platforms, including Whatsapp Groups, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to increase NDI’s social listening relevant for its programming; Experience with Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Google Drive, G+, etc.) strongly desired; Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; Ability to work independently and with others in a fast-paced environment; and Weekday availability of 40 hours per week for up to 6 months. NB: This position is an internship. There is no remuneration.
