Background

CARE began working in Zimbabwe in 1992 in response to a severe regional drought. After establishing a drought mitigation program, CARE began longer term developmental programs with local partners in building small dams, strengthening local microfinance institutions, and launching projects to assist small business persons in the rural areas. CARE Zimbabwe’s overall goal is to empower disadvantaged and poor households to meet their basic needs. Job summary

The incumbent is to effectively implement project activities and tasks on Nutrition and to provide coaching and mentoring support to community focal persons in order to attain project goals and objectives.


Key duties and responsibilities

Initiates planning for project activities such as Operational Planning, Budgeting, strategy with the aid of the Field Supervisor; Prepares food security and nutrition strategies in line with the project work plan and project documents such as proposals, log frames, project Annual Operating Plan; Prepares Individual Operating Plan in line with project Annual Operating Plan; Plans training schedules for project staff and partners; Conducts community stakeholder leadership orientation and sensitization meetings on food security and nutrition; Conducts community mobilization and sensitization meetings; Develops training manuals and trains partners, stakeholders and staff on barrier analysis; Comes up with a comprehensive design for Behavior Change that applies in Agriculture, Hygiene promotion and Nutrition; Facilitates collaboration with stakeholders, such as District Nutritionists, Primary Care Nurses, and traditional leaders; Identifies and recommends opportunities for improving production, preparation and consumption of available nutritious foods; Develops and facilitates implementation of strategies to increase dietary diversity at household level such as behavior communication for change; Supports cooking demonstrations at district level that supports dietary diversity; Supports the training of community health workers such as Village Health Workers (VHWs) in order to address issues that affect nutrition at household level; Facilitates the delivery of messages on nutrition and hygiene promotion to the community through VHWs; Documents project lessons learnt summaries, areas for improvement and shares through monthly reports; Contributes to the development of project monitoring tools; Prepares progress reports and submits to the Field Supervisor for consolidation into district report; Reviews project food and nutrition strategies with all stakeholders and project staff; Trains and coaches project staff on nutrition; Develops and Reviews monitoring tools for sharing with key partners and stakeholders; Conducts field monitoring visits to project sites to check on the level of integration; Participates in district food and nutrition security meetings; Adheres to CAREs PSEA and Child Protection Policy.


Qualifications, skills and experience

Degree in Nutrition/Public Health or equivalent; 4-6 years of experience in Nutrition or related programmes; Experience in food security or resilience programs; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; NGO experience will be an added advantage.
