Description :

Community Technology Development Organization (formerly Community Technology Development Trust (CTDT)

Deadline: 21 May 2021

Background

Community Technology Development Organization (formerly Community Technology Development Trust (CTDT) is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation (NGO) established in 1993. CTDO promotes sustainable agriculture, environmental management, food and nutrition security, water and sanitation and implements policy and advocacy programmes to promote sustainable livelihoods through a gender sensitive and inclusive approach.

CTDT and Oxfam are implementing the Sowing Diversity = Harvesting Security (SD-HS) programme which is funded by SIDA. The project is being implemented in 5 districts namely Tsholotsho, UMP, Rushinga, Mudzi and Chiredzi districts targeting 20 000 households.

The project is implemented along a 4-pillar approach with Pillar 3 seeking to strengthen coping strategies of communities by increasing the intake of nutritious food based on local biodiversity and improved management of local food plants, particularly neglected and under-utilised species (NUS).

The second survey round will focus on the season of plenty which is a different season than the first round, so as to capture both food affluent and food scarcity periods. The questionnaire would be applied to the same 501 households that responded to the first survey round. In this way, it will be possible to compare – for each household – the responses from the food affluent and food scarcity periods.

Local food plant diversity can contribute to reducing and even ending seasonal hunger or food scarcity periods by adding nutritional value to the diet of men, women and children. Fortunately, many communities still possess local knowledge of minor crops and semi-wild and wild plants that could help provide diverse sources of nutrients for the household and fill the gap caused by lack of food from staple crops during periods of seasonal hunger. women keep the knowledge to identify, gather and process wild food plants and minor crops and thus local food plant baseline will be conducted.

The second round includes five modules: 24 hour recall on food consumption (assessment of dietary diversity); Local food plant acquisition (assessment of plant use); Severity of food insecurity; COVID-19 related questions, which help to assess the contribution of the program during the Covid-19 pandemic; Additional questions, which help complement the analysis of the first round and contribute to the mid-term evaluation of the program.

NB: The consultant will be provided with the SD=HS global standardized and detailed questionnaire, guideline of the indicators to be tracked and excel template for data entry.
