Description of task


Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the HHD National Specialist or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV National Specialist IGI will: 1. Provide programmatic support to the Project focusing on the achievement of the following results: With support and oversight from the HHD Specialist, the overall work of the UN National Specialist will be to ensure that UNDP and its partners receive technical support as required to implement the IGI project activities in Zimbabwe. The UN National Specialist assists the HHD Specialist to ensure the provision of effective and efficient programme activities by


Providing technical and logistical support to a national consultant in their research and preparation of a baseline report and strategic options paper related to LGBTI inclusion in Zimbabwe, including;

Identify relevant literature and information for the baseline research;

Identify relevant stakeholders to be interviewed by the consultant;

Provide logistical support to IGI start-up activities in the country, including setting up of interviews and project meeting (online and face-to-face) and collating baseline data and information;

Identify key stakeholders (in government, other parts of the State, civil society, other UN agencies, and among key influencers like corporates or religious leaders) with which UNDP might collaborate on the initiative within the country; and

Review and make recommendations on the baseline report and the strategic options paper.

Monitoring and assisting in responding to key opportunities (and risks) within the country related to LGBTI inclusion.

Supporting the planning and facilitation of a national strategy development process to build consensus with key stakeholders on the most appropriate strategic direction for UNDP-managed work on LGBTI inclusion in the country.

Assisting in developing a work plan for a UNDP-managed project focused on LGBTI inclusion in the country.

Supporting the implementation and monitoring of IGI country-level activities as per the strategy and work plan to be developed including

Monitor and share information about LGBTI-related issues and activities in Zimbabwe, including actions and statements by parliamentarians, civil servants, the judiciary, important influencers, and civil society;

Support convening of implementing partners and coordination of their activities;

Support preparation of policy briefs, speaking notes, PowerPoint presentations and similar tools;

Support the development and implementation of IGI related communications activities, in social and traditional media; and

Drafting concept notes for training workshops.

2. Provide administrative support to the Project focusing on achievement of the following results:


Maintenance of the filing system ensuring safekeeping of confidential materials.

Assist in the organization of and writing memos, minutes of meetings and letters.



Assist in the development of materials for meetings, presentations, and workshops.

Compiles, analyses, summarizes data pertaining to the project, maintains records, documents, and training plans for the monitoring of project implementation.

Synthesis of lessons learnt and best practices in the project

Performs other tasks as required.

Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:


Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);

Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;

Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.

Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;

Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;

Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Qualifications/Requirements


Required degree level:Bachelor degree or equivalent


Education - Additional Comments:


Bachelor’s degree in Law, and or Public Health, and or Development Studies, and or Governance and Rights and or any other related fields

Required experience:24 Months


Experience remark:


Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and advance knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling web-based management systems. Previous UNDP/LPP experience would be an added advantage

Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formlation, reporting skills;

At least 2 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in Human Rights, Governance or other relevant programmes. Experience working in the UN or other international development organization is an asset;

Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;

Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;

Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;

Language skills:
