SOS Children's Villages International (CVI exists in more than 134 countries. The National Association of Zimbabwe is part of the bigger federation.


Job Summary


National Programme Director leads the development of SOS Children’s Villages key programmatic themes in Zimbabwe namely family based care, family strengthening programmes, advocacy, other alternative care options and education.

He/she will enhance efficiency, effectiveness and quality of delivery of programmes, and will be proactive in various core issues including Institutional Partnership Development (IPD), Fundraising, and Communications, Monitoring, Civil Society Sector engagement and Quality Assurance. Under the supervision of the National Director, the National Programme Director will work with various ministries, provincial and local authority in ensuring all procedures in relation to the development of the new projects and/or programmes are adhered to.

In addition, the role leads the planning (+budgeting), implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the children’s village programme, in accordance with the organizational standards and strategies.

General aim of the position

Lead the planning of programme interventions, in line with the organization’s mission policies, strategies and available resources;

Coordinate the implementation of programme interventions, ensuring cooperation between specialized and-general support co-workers, and appropriate allocation of resources;

Build positive relationships with all relevant stakeholders, including the community and local authorities;

Build a strong network of partner organizations;

Build and lead a strong programme team;

Ensure that mechanisms for monitoring efficiency and accountability in the use of resources are in place and functioning well;

Contribute to the realization of the child’s right to grow in a caring family environment.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required

University graduate in one or combination of the following disciplines; Social Sciences, Sociology and Development studies. A Master’s Degree is an added advantage; Working experiences not less than 6 years, which should include 4 years working at managerial positions within reputable NGOs working in Zimbabwe; Strong background on program management in Children and Youth Care programs, this is necessary; Robust experience in Monitoring and Evaluation; Strong background in proposal development and donor negotiation skills with good record of accomplishment of awarded proposals; Strong, leadership and interpersonal skills and group dynamics management skills; Ability to forge and manage partnership with Government and Civil Society Organizations; Ability to champion fundraising initiatives with experience in effective engagement of corporates; The candidate should possess the emotional stability to lead and guide the large community of children and staff, maintaining the required high standards; Ability to work under pressure and short deadlines; Matured candidate with good analytical skills; The candidate should be an all-rounded individual with a passion for working with children and youth, with strong advocacy skills, excellent communication; The ideal candidate should be a socially stable and mature person.
