Organizational Setting
Climate change and migration are complex intertwined processes. Extreme weather events can cause immediate displacement of people out of affected areas, whereas gradual environmental changes and repeated exposure to climate hazards can progressively affect migration patterns by shifting the duration, conditions and outcomes of migration or even by constraining mobility. In Zimbabwe, climate change is predicted to make the country drier and warmer. Zimbabwe is also among the low-income countries which are most at risk from increases in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as floods, droughts and heatwaves.
The (GCP/GLO/448/IRE) project aims at generating empirical knowledge of the linkages between migration, climate change and agriculture in Zimbabwe; strengthening intersectoral collaboration and policy coherence across these sectors; raising awareness and enhancing the capacity of national and local governments as well as rural stakeholders on the climate-migration challenges and opportunities for climate change adaptation; and supporting green public employment programmes and entrepreneurship in green sectors for young women and men.
Reporting Lines
Working under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Zimbabwe, and direct technical supervision of the Rural Migration Officer who coordinates the project at the global level and the Migration and Climate Change Specialist at FAO-Headquarters. He/she will report to the AFAOR- Programme as well as to the technical team at FAO-Headquarters. The National Project Coordinator will work in close collaboration with relevant UN agencies and government departments and national stakeholders.

Tasks And Responsibilities
Assume overall technical responsibility for the smooth implementation of the activities in accordance with the project documents and the TOR;
Prepare and submit inception reports with plan of actions and timetable;
Coordinate with the professional staff in FAO Zimbabwe and HQ involved in the implementation of the project, assist with the workplan and development of the project activities and coordinate actions through regular exchanges, knowledge management, and capacity building activities;
Manage the day-to-day implementation and monitoring of the project activities, including organizing workshops, trainings and periodic meetings; supporting the identification and selection of service providers, and monitoring and facilitating the delivery of contracted activities; liaising with national and local governments, UN agencies and other stakeholders; fostering partnerships and overseeing the process of policy dialogue promoted by the project;
Coordinate the development and roll-out of studies, capacity development and green jobs related activities including liaising with the service providers, reviewing reports and providing technical support on migration, climate and environmental change;
Contribute to the development of information and communication materials and coordinate knowledge management activities to guarantee adequate access to information for all relevant stakeholders through different communication means;
Coordinate and assist the missions, trainings and virtual/in-person consultations conducted by international consultants and FAO staff by processing the administrative procedures and coordination with relevant governmental agencies, UN agencies and national stakeholders;
Prepare and submit reports on progress of project’s implementation as well as the final report;
Monitor activity implementation to ensure delivery according to the work plan timeline and support monitoring of expenditures to ensure project-related costs stay within the allocated budget;
Collaborate with other existing migration, climate change adaptation and green jobs related interventions in Zimbabwe that may bring collaborations and partnerships;
Support resource mobilization efforts, including preparation of concept notes.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
Advanced University Degree in Migration, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Environmental studies or related fields
Working knowledge of migration is essential, knowledge of the migration-climate change nexus is considered an asset
Fluent in both written and spoken English
National of Zimbabwe or resident in the country with a regular work permit.

Technical Focus
Proven experience in policy assistance and/or programme management in the areas of migration, environment and rural development is essential
Proven skills on designing and organizing capacity development and awareness raising activities (e.g. multi-stakeholder workshops; trainings) as well as providing policy and programme support on migration, climate and environmental change
Good project planning, implementation and monitoring skills
Ability to deal with stakeholders from a broad range of backgrounds
Good communication, reporting and presentation skills
High degree of team ethic, well-organized, result focused and dynamic personality
Good computer skills (word, excel, power point etc.)
Previous experience of working with UN agencies is an asset
