Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Motor Mechanic Chinhoyi Rural Training Centre in the Catholic Diocese of Chinhoyi. Duty Station is Chinhoyi.


Job purpose


The motor mechanic main responsibilities include, inspecting vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately. Inspecting vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade. Conducing routine maintenance work aiming to vehicle functionality. He/she should possess good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity and should be well versed in complex mechanical or electronical systems of vehicles and have excellent problem-solving abilities.


Key responsibilities


Responsible for the company’s vehicle workshop; Maintenance, overhauls repairs and servicing of a fleet of vehicles; Inspecting and testing vehicles for fitness and roadworthiness; Diagnosing faults, order required parts and perform required repairs; Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods; Conduct routine maintenance work, (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.) aiming to vehicle functionality and longevity; Schedule future maintenance sessions and advise motorists on good vehicle use; Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues (e.g. leaks); Provide accurate estimates (cost, time, effort) for a repair or maintenance job; Keep logs on work and issues and up to date mechanical records; Maintain equipment and tools in good condition; maintenance of a safe working area; Mentoring National Foundation Certificate (NFC) HEXICO motor mechanic students on attachment.

Ability to use, repair and maintain machines and tools; Be thorough and pay attention to detail; Have problem solving skills; Ability to use your initiative; Persistence and determination; The ability to work well with others; Knowledge of engineering science and technology; Customer service skills; Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills, resourcefulness, initiative, maturity of judgment, tact, and negotiating skills, and the ability to cope with diverse situations; Ability to handle effectively multiple tasks without compromising quality, team spirit and positive working relationships; Excellent knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic components of vehicles; Ability to solve complex problems with minimal supervision; Facilitation and training skills.


Qualifications & experience


Proven experience as a mechanic; Excellent knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic components of vehicles; Ability to handle various tools (e.g. pliers) and heavy equipment (e.g. lift); Willingness to observe all safety precautions for protections against accidents, dangerous fluids, chemicals etc; Excellent physical condition; Journeyman class 2 or equivalent motor mechanic qualification; valid certification from a vocational school or completion of an apprenticeship is preferred; At least five years’ experience with both diesel and petrol engines; Clean class 2/4 driver’s license is a must; Proven capacity to work in a multidisciplinary environment
