POST: Legal Practitioner/Clinician (2 Posts) DEPARTMENT: RESPONSIBLE TO: ACCESS TO JUSTICE CENTRE DIRECTOR, ACCESS TO JUSTICE CENTRE JOB SUMMARY The Legal Practitioner will be responsible for handling all advising all clients seeking legal representation from the Law Clinic. In addition the Legal Practitioner will also be responsible for clinical legal education tutorials and technical coordination with the department. Moreso the Legal Practitioner would be responsible for advisory services to all clients seeking advice through the Law Clinic. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The legal Officer is expected to: 1. Represent all clients seeking legal representation through the law clinic. 2. Give legal advice to all clients seeking legal advice through the law clinic. 3. Draft and review collaboration and partnership agreements and contracts entered into between the Faculty and its various centres. 4. Analyse and review the clients' legal agreements, policies and documents etc. 5. Assist management and staff with interpretation of regulations, laws and policies governing the University. 6. Maintenance of the legal diary for all hearings and court appearances and notification of all relevant witness for all cases. 7. Serve as the liaison person with the clinic's lawyers, corporate entities, government agencies and individuals over litigation, compliance and regulatory issues. 8. Keep abreast of relevant legal and regulatory developments, laws and government policies. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Required: • A good first Degree in Law from a recognized University. A Master's Degree in Law or other relevant post graduate qualifications will be an added advantage; • Registration with the Law Society of Zimbabwe; • At least two (2) years of experience in handling legal matters as a practicing Attorney-at-Law or in a corporate environment. Experience of working in an academic environment is highly beneficial; • Excellent knowledge of litigation, judicial processes and legal drafting; • Good negotiation, arbitration and mediation skills; • Excellent communication and reporting skills; • Proficiency in the use of Information and Communications Technology tools and e-resources; • Interpersonal skills, analytical thinking and judgment skills; • Result oriented and ability to manage a heavy work load while paying attention to details; • High level of honesty and integrity.
